Soap Demo
is a Team Fortress 2 machinima by Antoine Delak of Gorgeous Freeman, Heavy is Dead and Demo Mesa fame. The short was a dense parody of a Soap Opera, with the cast entirely consisting of Demomen.
oooOOooooOh... nobody tropes me:
- Artistic License – Medicine: After initially diagnosing Lady Demo with cancer, Dr. Demo eventually returns to break the good news that the cancer is healing itself.
- Bait-and-Switch: The Introductory Opening Credits has Luigi being portrayed as a grizzled-looking gunman with a scar and an eyepatch, making him appear to be a sinister hitman. When he makes his appearance, he's just a grump that wanted Drunk off his property, enforcing it with his blunderbuss.
- Beard of Sorrow: When Drunk left Lady Demo, he was watering a front lawn wearing one of these while on a "Nobody loves me" angst. He ripped off the beard when receiving the letter asking for his help.
- Call-Back: Giga Chad Demo made a shot in a very similar manner to the Demo in Heavy is Dead, only it missed its mark and hits a stray Demo in a Scout costume this time.Giga Chad Demo: Oh, I'm going to do it like this! (shoots as he ragdolls back)
- Chairman of the Brawl: When Drunk returned to rescue Lady Demo, he bashed a chair over Giga Chad Demo to knock him unconscious.
- Domestic Abuse: Lady Demo showed a distraught Drunk a photo of Giga Chad Demo slapping her, and telling Drunk that she doesn't like her husband, to no avail. When Giga Chad Demo drove to the area just after Drunk left, he gleefully threatened to shoot her.
- Dramatic Gun Cock: Despite it only firing twice, Giga Chad Demo cocks the hammer of his revolver five times when confronting Lady Demo.
- Drives Like Crazy: Giga Chad Demo angrily crashes his car into a wall both times when confronting Lady Demo.
- Funny Background Event: At the bar in the background, one table was occupied by a Demoman having a lonesome birthday party looking pretty morose, but towards the end perks up when receiving a teddy bear.
- Get Out!: Just as Drunk was back out of his funk and about to return to rescue Lady Demo, Luigi tells Drunk to get the fuck off his property then shoots him with a blunderbuss.
- Interrupted Suicide: Drunk was about to jump off the bridge upon seeing Lady Demo reject him in front of her husband Giga Chad Demo, only for Lady Demo to stop it and show that she doesn't love her husband and was subject to his abuse. Drunk rejected the romantic offer and just left the city instead.
- Late Pregnancy Realization: When Lady Demo was seemingly dying of cancer on the hospital bed, she shrugged off the events and suddenly realized she's pregnant. Just as Drunk and Giga Chad Demo were giving shocked reactions the baby got born.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Giga Chad Demo upon seeing that his dropped gun discharged and hit Lady Demo. He turned from gleefully threatening to kill her to agonizing over it.
- Planet of Hats: Much like Demo Mesa, the entire cast of the short, including the background characters, consist of some variation of the Demoman.
- Shout-Out:
- Lady Demo's husband Giga Chad Demo is modeled after the Gigachad◊ meme.
- When Lady Demo was alerted to her husband's presence, she lets out an "OH NO!" in a Joseph Joestar-esque manner, complete with poses.
- The image of Giga Chad Demo slapping Lady Demo is perfect recreation of the infamous comic panel of Batman slapping Robin.
- Lady Demo's letter to Drunk was formatted in the manner of Peach's introductory letter in Super Mario 64, and even included the same music.
- Just as Luigi shoots Drunk with his blunderbuss, it cuts to the "We'll Be Right Back" graphic from The Eric Andre Show.
- Lady Demo's husband Giga Chad Demo is modeled after the Gigachad
- Soap Opera Disease: Parodied. Lady Demo was diagnosed with cancer before suddenly shrugging it off and remembering she's been pregnant all along. Then Dr. Demo returned to say that the cancer healed itself, and revealed himself as not actually being a doctor.
- You're Not My Father: When Giga Chad Demo was about to kiss Lady Demo's newborn son, he received a slap, with the infant pointing at Drunk as the real father. Drunk was happy to hear this, but still gave the baby to Giga Chad Demo as a sign of friendship.
