Thomas’ Friends details life on Sodor and how utterly chaotic it is. From the residents being out there, jerks, or a bit of both. With lots of violence, humor and a narrator too.Sodor 1957 deals with the effects of a sabotage on Thomas and is much more grounded in reality than Thomas’ Friends.
Creativemaster 5 provides examples of:
- Adaptational Backstory Change: The second episode of 1957 reveals that Diesel wasn’t always the cocky shunter he is now. He was much more shy and nervous until his creator Rudolph Diesel gave his creation a speech about how he is revolutionary which goes to the 08 shunter’s fuel tanker.
- Adaptational Jerkass: Pretty much everyone in Thomas’ Friends is this. It’d be easier to list the characters who aren’t this.
- Alternate Universe: Sodor 1957 delves into a timeline where Thomas suffers from sabotage and Diesel is sent in his place.
- Gosh Darn It to Heck!: Despite all of the chaos and violence in both series, no one actually swears. Averted in “Ghost Train” though it is cut short.
- Jerkass Realization: The fourth episode of 1957 reveals that Gordon has had one ever since Thomas’ crash.
- Mad Scientist: Duck is this in Thomas’ Friends as he happily preforms experiments on his friends while uncaring of the aftermath.
- Only Sane Man: Oliver is this in Thomas’ Friends as he looks on the chaos around him with scorn and snark.
- You Are Better Than You Think You Are: In the fourth episode of 1957 “Guilt”, Edward tells Gordon that despite getting in a argument with Thomas days before the sabotage he shouldn’t blame himself for what happened.
