The main cast. (From left to right: Dr. Cadaver, Scout, Rookie, Sniper, JAKE 17, Heavy and Pilot).

In a non-distinct location far away from the adventures of Master Chief, squads of Spartans are defending the universe (Or perhaps just the maps they inhabit) from the evil Covenant. Combat Devolved follows one such squad, as they fight against not only the aliens, but their own incompetence.

Combat Devolved is a Talking Skullz Machinima set in the Halo Universe and occurring alongside the game series. Currently in its first series, which takes place during the time period of Halo: Combat Evolved. Episodes are scheduled to air fortnightly with bonus videos on alternate weeks.

You can check it out on the Talking Skullz YouTube channel here. The series has begun only recently, but is quickly growing.

Has a Character Sheet for all characters that have made an appearance (Cameos notwithstanding).

Provides Examples Of:

  • Armed Farces: The squad does very little fighting against the Covenant.
Cadaver: "Only some last minute Deus ex Machina can save us. ... *cue Pelican crash*"
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Pete first appears in the fifth bonus video in an artwork.
  • The Faceless: Being a Machinima made in the Halo engine, this is inevitable.
  • Hero of Another Story: Their story takes place in the same universe as Halo making the Combat Devolved squad one of these to the Halo series.
  • Lampshade Hanging: The main difference between this and series such as Red vs. Blue is the near-constant use of Lampshades throughout the series.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: A lot of the gags and one-liner jokes used throughout the series are based on events (real or not) that happened to the writers.
    • The main character's personalities are also inflicted with this, basically being (at first) just the real life person's standout trait undergone Flanderization (ie - Scout's stupidity, Pilot's swearing).
  • Rotating Protagonist: Although some get longer in the limelight after the first few episodes the show starts to take on this format.
  • Running Gag:
    • The anonymity of Rookie's name.
    • Sniper never firing his gun.
    • (Much later) Pilot's Phone.
  • Shout-Out: Given to many, MANY different franchises, including expected series such as Red vs. Blue which had an impact and basis on the shows style, sometimes comprising of entire episodes. Of note:
    • Episode's 4 & 5 are one to Portal.
    • Episode's 9 - 13 is one massive homage to Red Dwarf.
  • Stylistic Suck: Inevitable, considering the lack of any budget. It only adds to the charm.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Every single main character (sans Scout and Cadaver) thinks that this is the case.
  • Welcome Episode: Episodes 1 & 3, and episode 2 to some extent.
