WMG / Star Fox Zero

Go To

The new Arwing is a mix of a valkyrie of Super Dimension Fortress Macross and Mazinger Z's Hover Pilder
One of its alternate forms is a bipedal jet; and another of its transformed forms has propellers inside metal rings. Clearly a version of Dr. Kabuto exists in the Star Fox universe and collaborated with the engineers that designed the jet; and the Macross Earth also exists, and the Arwing's design is inspired by the Valkyries' transformations.
  • Jossed, the Gyrowing is a separate vehicle.

The Walkers aren't the only thing to come back from Star Fox 2.
It's possible that Miyu, Fay or even Fara might come back as well.
  • There's the Battleships from Star Fox 2 as well, which make up the final phase of Sector Alpha and the Salvadora boss.
  • None of the Star Fox 2 characters show up.

This is actually a SERIES of reboots
Within the game, there will be different "seasons" of levels, each different in style and only make vague references to each other. One could be the "tribute/remake of Lylat Wars" stuff we saw at E3, while another could be a continuation of Assault (since Command isn't canon). Once the game is completed, Nintendo will create a poll to decide which is the new canon.
  • Jossed. The game has a coherent narrative regardless of how the player advances through the game, and stuff like Star Wolf being beaten in one level results in their later appearances having bandages and stuff in later levels. However, some levels play differently depending on how the previous level was beaten.

There will be levels/story elements taken from all of the past games in the series.
After all, Miyamoto himself stated that Zero takes names and several concepts from previous games, so who knows? For example, Out of this Dimension and/or the Black Hole could return as secret levels from the original Star Fox. As an above WMG states, Miyu, Fay and/or Fara from 2 could appear as recruitable characters. Bill, Katt, and other characters/stages could return from 64. Krystal, Tricky, General Scales and other Adventures characters could return as well, either as major story characters or NPC characters in a (series of) level(s) based on Dinosaur Planet, after which Krystal could join the Star Fox team again. The Aparoids from Assault could also make an appearance, whether they are part of the main plot or simply enemies in a particular (series of) level(s). Finally, Dash, Lucy, Amanda and the Anglars could represent Command.
  • Sort of. In the animation Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins, it's mentioned that the Star Fox team has recently come back from Sauria, the planet featured in Adventures and Assault.

The Cornarian army will play a much bigger role in this game
Gameplay footage shows Fox and his crew fighting alongside an armada of Cornerian flagships battling Andross' forces in space. If so, we might get to see some new characters helping out the Star Fox team. Bonus points if Bill Grey shows up in more stages.
  • Confirmed, at least partially...one stage consists of EVERYONE who was a named hero in Star Fox 64 fighting!

Star Fox Zero will be dedicated to the memory of Satoru Iwata.
During the end credits, after the Great Fox flies into the sunset, there will be a message that says, "In loving memory of Satoru Iwata".
  • Confirmed, but worded differently. "This game is dedicated to our wingman who fell in battle."

Here's how the Area 3 Stage will work
In Area 3, your objective is to prevent Andross' forces from retrieving the Gigarilla in a space colony. But just like in Star Fox 64, depending on what you do in a stage could result in either a Mission Accomplished or a Mission Complete. Here's how the mission results could work.

For a Mission Accomplished, you must use the Gyrowing to gain control of the Gigarilla and defeat several enemy fighters. If you succeed, here's what will happen:

Enemy Commander: I can't believe this! Everyone! Retreat! Retreat!
Mission Accomplished
Fox: All aircraft report!
Peppy: Great thinking of using the Gigarilla.
Slippy: Yeah! That oughta show them!
Falco: Ah, you're getting better Fox.

For a Mission Complete, as Andross' forces have took control of the Gigarilla, you must destroy the Gigarilla before it destroys the space colony. If you destroy the Gigarilla, The following will occur after you leave the colony:

Mission Complete
Fox: All aircraft report!
Slippy: I'm fine! I'm fine!
Peppy: I've taken a few hits. But I'm ok!
Falco: That was intense! But I'll manage.

If you fail to destroy the Gigarilla, Andross' forces will set off a chain of events that destroys the space colony. As Andross' forces leave with the Gigarilla, the Enemy Commander will state that the Star Fox team will never escape. As the Star Fox team try to escape the colony, a chunk of debris is about to fall on Fox's Arwing. However, Peppy intervenes by knocking Fox out of the way, but Peppy is buried under the debris. After Fox and his teammates escape, they see the entire space colony explode. After that, a huge chunk of the colony begins to fly towards the planet Titania. Then, Fox hears a message coming from Peppy in the destroyed colony:

Peppy: Fox!!!
Fox: Peppy!!!
Mission Failed
Fox: Is everyone alright?
Slippy: I can't believe they destroyed the colony.
Falco: Andross will pay for this!
ROB 64: Distress signal coming from Titania.
Fox: Hold on Peppy! We're coming for you!

  • Jossed. There's a split pathway leading to Titania, depending on how the mission ends, but not like this. Wolf O'Donnell attacks Star Fox at Sector Beta, and failing to beat him quickly enough results in Peppy's Arwing getting damaged and falling toward Titania.

The Final Boss will be a giant, full bodied Andross
The 1st phase is an all-range mode where the cockpit view/boss focus camera are put to use targeting his body as he runs around. After his legs are destroyed, Andross starts hovering & it becomes the standard corridor-style bossfight. The arms are blown off, a hole is blasted open in his chest & the fight ends with Fox launching a smartbomb into Andross' heart, blowing up the ape. Star Fox flies off, believing Andross to be utterly dead. However in the post-credits scene, the hands & head awaken, confirming that Zero really is a prequel.
  • Zig-Zagged. The Final Boss is Andross, but he's using the familiar floating head and hands gimmick from Star Fox 64 (albeit using a similar visual style to the mechanical face seen in Star Fox 1). However, in the unlockable Sound Test mode, a full model of a fully bodied Andross can be seen.

The Game is a Stealth Sequel
And Krystal will appears at the end of the game saying something like "Did you miss me?".

  • Jossed. She never shows up and isn't mentioned. It also takes place during the same time frame as Star Fox 64.

A potential sequel will revisit the idea of Andrew taking over Andross's forces.
His profile on the official Zero website descibres him as the "presumed heir" to Andross's empire, so it's a possibility.

The dimension holes are part of the in-universe reason this is a reboot.
Like a for-want-of-a-nail scenario.

  • Jossed, at least for now. The dimension holes are portals created using technology developed by Andross. They're not treated as unusual in any way.

The console Falco is playing in The Battle Begins is a sneaky Production Foreshadowing.
How awesome would it be that, after months of speculation and fake leaks, it is revealed that the NX actually was hidden in plain sight in this short film? Plus, it has a screen integrated to the controller, which ties in various rumors concerning it.

The game takes place in-between Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox: Assault.
It may be a re-imagining of Star Fox 64 but the dialogue in The Battle Begins seems to suggest this is the case. 'Where is Krystal' you might ask? Why she's busy training to one day join Fox's team. 'But then, what about Andross? If what you're suggesting is true, how is it that he's part of the game too?' Well, that's why it's listed here, to see whether or not this'll be jossed.
  • Jossed. It takes place 5 years after James McCloud disappeared over Venom, which is the same time frame that Star Fox 64 took place in. Krystal is never mentioned in the game, and the story begins and ends the same way 64 did.

The Krystal Issue
Because Zero is the second reboot of the Star Fox Universe, the only way for Nintendo to assure the audiences that Krystal hasn't been retconned is to officially announce a new game in development with her as a main character. But when and how would she make her brand new appearance? Perhaps the most likely scenario that might happen is to do a complete remake of Star Fox Adventures with a reworked storyline and brand new world.
