''Vs. NekoFreak'' is a Friday Night Funkin' mod created by Hamillun. Taking place from 2 months to just over 4 weeks before Boyfriend met Girlfriend, and thus to an extent, taking place before the events of the main game, this mod sees Boyfriend trying his luck with a dating app called Qinder and going on dates with three different girls - Lia, Mia and Kia - all of which end badly in some form.

Song List:

  • 60 Days before GF (Lia):
  1. The Date
  2. Red Flag
  3. GTFO

  • 46 Days before GF (Mia):
  1. Left Swipe
  2. Trippin
  3. Datura Dynamo

  • 32 Days before GF (Kia):
  1. Smol
  2. Frontin
  3. Hubris

Tropes:

  • Artifact Title: The original version of this mod was mainly dedicated to Lia, the titular NekoFreak, while Mia and Kia, who were unnamed at the time, were bonus songs. Though at least Kia's a Cat Girl.
  • Ax-Crazy: Lia first shows signs of this once she changes into her cat onesie and holds a knife after "The Date". Confirmed at the end of "Red Flag", when she straight-up slashes Boyfriend in the chest, and is covered with his blood. As if that wasn't bad enough, she says that her previous date, who was only there a couple of hours ago, didn't survive the "kitchen test".
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: At the end of each week/date, Boyfriend shows us his list of rejected dates, which are for each girl. While Lia gets rejected for being a serial killer and Mia gets rejected for drug abuse, Kia is rejected simply for being an asshole.
  • Blank White Eyes: Mia ends up these from "Trippin" onwards due to accidentally taking speed drugs instead of her anti-depressants.
  • Captain Ersatz: Qinder is obviously this to Tinder, merely replacing the T with a Q.
  • Dating Service Disaster: Boyfriend meets all these women on a dating app.
  • Drugs Are Bad: Mia admits to Boyfriend that she was nervous about the date, and tried to take anti-depressants before his arrival, but accidentally took speed drugs instead, hence her eyes glaze over for the rest of the date, and Boyfriend drives her to rehab at the end of the date.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Deconstructed with Mia, a girl who loves to party, is described as taking datura, and ends up overdosing on speed by accident. Needless to say, Boyfriend is not happy.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Kia makes a jab at Boyfriend by comparing his chances of succeeding in music to his height, even though she's even shorter than him. Naturally, Boyfriend replies with this:
"You are not the one to be making height jabs."
  • Interface Screw: For the third and final song of each week/date, the screen gets shaky, as well as the HUD.
  • Jerkass: Kia. She is nothing but unpleasant towards Boyfriend throughout their "date". No wonder Boyfriend dumps her. Boyfriend even describes her as an asshole on his post-date list.
  • Mythology Gag: Lia, Mia and Kia are based on sprites of "Stalker Girls" found in the files of the base game.
  • Prequel: This mod takes place before Boyfriend met Girlfriend, back when he was meeting girls through Qinder.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Definitely Boyfriend's mindset at the end of his date with Lia, and after ending his "date" with Kia, he decides to delete Qinder from his phone and just stop using dating apps altogether.
  • Suddenly Voiced: At the end of "Red Flag", Lia actually speaks, and says this:
"You're not done already, are you? (Stabs Boyfriend in the chest) Hahaha, did I hurt you?"
    • A smaller example happens before “Hubris”, as stated in Hypocritical Humor, Boyfriend drops his usual beep-boop speak in response to a height jab from Kia:
“You are not the one to be making height jabs.”
  • Tempting Fate: Before "Hubris" begins, Kia tells Boyfriend that he'll never make it in the music scene. Considering this takes place before the events of the base game, Kia SEVERLY underestimated Boyfriend.
  • Token Good Teammate: Out of the three girls (Lia, Mia and Kia), Mia is the nicest to Boyfriend and outside of her drug problem shows no ill intent towards him. If it weren't for her drug problem and Boyfriend never met Girlfriend, there may have been potential for them.
  • Wham Line: During the cutscene before "Hubris", Kia says that she has an ex, describing him as a "weirdo college dropout who does PI (as in, Paranormal Investigation) work", and throughout the song itself she glows in correspondence to the notes she presses. This ex is all but stated to be SHAGGY. Not to mention her poses match his from his own mod.
