"Well, saving the Princess (and GF) is no easy task! I'll have to teach you the basics of going on adventures and defeating enemies!"

VS. Mario is a Friday Night Funkin' Game Mod developed by QuickestFire, and is a crossover with the iconic Super Mario Bros. series.

One day, you somehow end up in the fantastical world of the Mushroom Kingdom, where you run in to the famous Super Mario himself! Unfortunately, you learn from him that your girlfriend had been kidnapped alongside Princess Peach by Bowser. So now you two must team up to save both your girlfriends all while learning the basics of adventuring in the Mushroom Kingdom.

The mod originally started out as one week with three songs against Mario without any dialogue in-between songs. But now it's been revamped into VS. Mario Rebooted, which is currently a demo featuring dialogue, new character sprites, a new menu, and two weeks each with one song remixing a tune from the Mario series.

Original

  1. Overworld (Super Mario Bros.)
  2. Bob-Ombs (Super Mario 64)
  3. Athletic (Super Mario World)

Rebooted

Week M: Let's-a-go! (Mario)

  1. Overworld (Super Mario Bros.)

Week L: L is Real (Luigi)

  1. Mansion (Luigi's Mansion)

  • Adaptational Wimp: Girlfriend. Despite teasing at strong powers in the base game, and outright showing them off to protect Boyfriend in several other mods, here she's been kidnapped by Bowser alongside Peach without any known fight.
  • Adapted Out: "Bob-Ombs" and "Athletic" were removed in Rebooted.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Why did Bowser kidnap GF alongside Peach? All we can assume for now is that it's just For the Evulz.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Boyfriend does one in the form of a beep when Mario informs him that Girlfriend was kidnapped by Bowser.
  • Call-Back: The gimmicks shown throughout Mario's week are presented similarly to the gimmicks in Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix.
    • Mario’s week name is a reference to his Catchphrase and Luigi’s is a reference to the infamous statue in Super Mario 64.
  • Damsel in Distress: Peach as usual, but now GF's along for the ride as well.
  • Excuse Plot: There isn't an explicit reason why BF and GF are in the Mushroom Kingdom. BF doesn't know himself. All we know is that Bowser kidnapped GF alongside Peach for some reason and that he must team up with Mario to save her.
  • Lighter and Softer: Because this mod takes place in the regular Mario universe, there are no horror or creepypasta elements whatsoever here, unlike other mods such as Monday Night Massacre and especially Mario's Madness. The worst that happens here is Girlfriend getting kidnapped by Bowser alongside Peach.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Going on adventures and stomping on enemies, as well as finding their way out of a mansion somehow translates to rapping against your own ally. Only in Friday Night Funkin.
  • Major Injury Under Reaction: Mario in the Monochrome cover, who only responds with a plain “I’m tired”… for a while at least.
  • Nice Guy: Both Mario and Luigi as per usual.
  • Oh, Crap!: Luigi freaks out when he realizes the exit is missing.
  • Save the Princess: Wouldn't be Mario without this plot.
  • Suddenly Speaking: Unlike most official Mario game media, Mario and Luigi speak full sentences in this mod.
  • Written-In Absence: Girlfriend doesn't appear on the speakers, as she was kidnapped by Bowser alongside Princess Peach.
