The Gaokao Tree is an Idle Game made in The Modding Tree by qq1010903229/loader3229 and released in 2022. It focuses on the standardized college entrance exam from China. You have to study four subjects and build your ability. Once you're ready, you can take the exam and get some points that unlock things once you reach a milestone. You can get credits by studying for upgrades and textbooks once they're available to improve your learning skills significantly. Reach the perfect score of 750 points to win the game!

It is playable here.

This game provides examples of:

  • Achievement System: There's a tab with 28 achievements. All of them are for purchasing things or reaching a high enough score, so they should all be achieved by the endgame.
  • Bragging Rights Reward: At 750 points, it's possible to have all degrees at once, but the endgame has been reached with no meaningful progress beyond that point.
  • Cap: Score for one subject caps at 150, with the exception of integrated science at 300. This means the highest reachable score and the endgame is 750.
  • Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: Each layer has a specific color.
    • Gaokao: White
    • Chinese: Red
    • Math: Yellow
    • English: Green
    • Integrated Science: Cyan
    • Permanent Upgrades: Grey
    • Cash: Dark yellow
    • University: Dark grey
  • Export Save: You can press a button to copy the 4KB+ save and paste into a window that shows up.
  • Everybody Hates Mathematics: Zigzagged. Mathematics is likely to be the subject with the lowest ability for a while, even with all textbooks maxed. But with some upgrades and degrees, it's likely that your exam score will max out for it earlier than the other subjects.
  • Money for Nothing: Once you purchase all the goods in the supermarket, all that cash you're making has no purpose whatsoever.
  • New Game Plus: Taking the exam resets credits, subject ability, upgrades, and textbooks, but you gain points based on performance that unlock milestones and improve textbook effect once you have at least 80.
  • Reset Milestones: Taking part in the exam and getting enough points grants a milestone that unlocks subjects, lets you study them every second, gains more credit from studying, or unlocks layers/upgrades/textbooks.
  • Skill Point Reset: You can push a button to reset all degrees. Annoyingly, it's treated by the game as a purchasable upgrade, so the ungraduate layer's button will always have a red outline.
