Magical Girl Critical is a mobile game released by Cuticle Nyan Co. in 2017. You play as Momoka, a Magical Girl who is sent to another world via a summoning spell. Her normal magic proves ineffective on the monsters there, so she'll have to beat them by jumping on them or whacking them with her wand as she tries to find the summoner who took her here in the first place.

Magical Girl Critical has examples of:

  • Asteroids Monster: The first boss, the Mega Slime, divides into two, and then four, when attacked.
  • Bribing Your Way to Victory: There are a number of bonuses that can make playing through the game easier, but strictly speaking they aren't required per se to complete it.
  • Chest Monster: Mimics are present in this game. They're quite troublesome since they attack by hopping, and Momoka can't jump on them. Also, the second boss is a bigger one called the Mimic Celeb.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Momoka's magic was just the ability to purify the heart, which is useless against beings with little intelligence or no sapience. Averted as she finds magic stones that grant her more spells.
  • Evil All Along: After doing what needed to be done, Momoka wonders this of the mage who summoned her to open a vault holding a magic sword, but this trope is averted.
  • Goomba Stomp: One of the ways Momoka can defeat an enemy is by stomping on them repeatedly.
  • Here We Go Again!: After the credits, it’s revealed that Nyaggard accidentally brought Momoka back before she was sent to the fantasy world. She doesn’t take this very well as she is sent there again, leaving things open for a New Game Plus.
  • Kill It with Fire: Zombies take ten hits to defeat, or just one fireball.
  • Piñata Enemy: The golden slime drops lots of coins upon defeat, though it takes 4 whacks, and it flees for several seconds after getting struck first.
  • Projectile Spell: The first magic stone Momoka acquires is Sparkseed, which grants her the ability to shoot fireballs from range. She eventually gets another called Destroots, which is only for breaking certain stone obstacles.
  • Punny Name: Nyaggard's name is a mixture of "nya" and "haggard", alluding to his nature as a greedy cat mentor.
  • Retraux: The game is styled like an 8-bit video game, but it goes a bit further than most. When started up, a channel select is seen, and in widescreen mode, you can actually see the TV the game is being played on.
  • The Spiny: There are a few enemies Momoka can’t jump on or she’ll get hurt.
  • Trapped in Another World: A wizard from another world summons Momoka with Nyaggard's aid to his world for help in unsealing a vault holding a magic sword since her specific magic signature is needed. Unfortunately for both of them, Momoka ended up very far from her destination and had to proceed there on foot once Nyaggard points the way to the summoner.
  • Weight Woe: When Nyaggard describes Momoka's weight for a Goomba Stomp being 50 kilograms, she says she isn't that heavy.
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: After finishing her quest, Nyaggard sends Momoka back to her world, moments before she was summoned. Unfortunately, this causes her to be summoned again, leading to New Game Plus.
