The Magic of Friendship won't be enough to stop this threat...
Dusk Till Dawn
is a Friday Night Funkin' mod created by jakeneutron that crosses over Pibby and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. In this mod, Boyfriend, Pibby and Pinkie Pie face off against Twilight Sparkle, who has been corrupted by The Darkness. The mod currently consists of a single song, titled "Dusk Till Dawn".
Jakeneutron made a few FNF x Pibby mod concepts over on his Youtube channel, but this one is notable for being the first to be made into a fully playable mod.
This work contains examples of:
- And I Must Scream: From what was seen in the trailer for the original Pibby cartoon, characters that get corrupted by The Darkness are turned into constantly smiling zombies with no mind of their own, and that's about it. Here, Twilight is shown making faces other than the vacant smile she has by default (namely frowns), implying that she's still in there somewhere, but cannot stop herself from attacking Boyfriend and Pibby whilst under The Darkness's influence. Towards the end of the song, when Twilight is backed up by the rest of the Mane 6 excluding Pinkie, Fluttershy is shown panicking while the rest of the Mane 6 are smiling, implying that Fluttershy is also trying to fight back against the darkness.
- Cliffhanger: The mod ends this way. Namely, the screen just cuts to black after Pinkie pulls out her party cannon and fires it, leaving it up to interpretation whether that did anything to help save Twilight from her corrupted state.
- Despair Event Horizon: Twilight is in this state before she gets corrupted, as The Darkness has invaded her home and taken all of her friends save for Pinkie, and she's at a loss trying to think of her next action. Boyfriend tries to persuade her to come back to camp, but his efforts end up for naught once Twilight is corrupted.
- Dissonant Serenity: True to form, Pinkie keeps her cheerful demeanor as she faces off with the corrupted Twilight.
- Dodge the Bullet: Certain sections of the song have Twilight shoot at the heroes with One-Hit Kill magic blasts from her horn. Pressing the notes in time will allow them to dodge the blasts.
- Hope Bringer: Pinkie's talent for making people smile manifests as this here, as Boyfriend visibly becomes more upbeat despite the situation once she shows up.
- Improvised Weapon: Pinkie blasts Twilight with the Party Cannon at the end of the song.
- Messy Hair: Twilight's mane and tail are shown to be unkempt before she gets corrupted. Pinkie's mane and tail are also messy, but in her case it's easy to miss since it's in the form of a few strands springing out of what's already a cluster of curliness.
- Mythology Gag:
- Twilight has spoken lines throughout the song. Said lines are taken directly from "Friendship is Magic", specifically the season 2 episode "Lesson Zero".
- When Pinkie shows up to help Boyfriend and Pibby fight the corrupted Twilight, her first turn singing references her iconic Smile Song, which becomes a recurring motif throughout the song.
- Before she gets corrupted, Twilight is shown to be part of Boyfriend and Pibby's team fighting back against The Darkness. Twilight's gear while she is part of the team resembles her outfit from "It's About Time".
- The Pollyanna: Pinkie Pie, as expected of the bearer of the Element of Laughter, as she manages to maintain her cheeriness in spite of how everyone she held dear had fallen victim to the Darkness, fellow Element-Bearers included. Even amid a volley of magic blasts being fired at her and Boyfriend, she lets out a cheer of "Awesome!" after dodging several shots.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Boyfriend isn't his usual Fearless Fool self this time around. He fully understands how dangerous The Darkness is along with those under its influence, having witnessed it firsthand, even losing Girlfriend to it, and very much would not like to get corrupted himself.
- Sole Survivor: After The Darkness invaded Equestria, Twilight and Pinkie were the only ones not to be infected. As of the events of this mod however, this trope applies solely to Pinkie.
