Trivia / Ween

Go To

  • Black Sheep Hit: "Push th' Little Daisies"
  • Corpsing:
    • Happens occasionally on some of their more lo-fi albums. For example, near the beginning of "Dr. Rock," you can hear Gene laughing and saying "Let's do it again."
    • Maybe the most noticeable on "Blackjack" and "Right to the Ways and the Rules of the World."
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer:
    • When appearing on a Dutch TV show, the Prince homage/parody "L.M.L.Y.P." is said to stand for "Let Me Love You, Prince." Anyone who has actually heard the song will know it stands for "Let Me Lick Your Pussy."
    • In December 2012, Aaron Freeman uploaded a song called "Genene" to his Soundcloud. The song's title (a feminine form of "Gene") and lyrics that seem to reference an operation led to many news sources claiming that Freeman was transgender and it was likely Ween broke up to give him time to adjust to becoming Genene Ween.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: As he has stated on multiple occasions, Dean Ween's favorite Ween album is The Mollusk.
  • Executive Meddling: The band wanted the cover for the album Chocolate And Cheese to have a "gay sailor theme." The studio shot down that idea, thinking it would be extremely politically incorrect especially on an album with a song called "The HIV Song."
    • Ween intended the double live compilation Paintin' the Town Brown to be released on their own private label, Chocodog, which would press a small amount of copies and sell them exclusively through their website - essentially the idea was for it to be an officially-sanctioned "bootleg", focusing on providing diehard fans with rare material note  rather than representing what a typical performance was like. At the last minute, Elektra, the major label they were signed to at the time, took the album out of the band's hands and released it themselves, naturally on a much wider scale than originally intended.
  • Throw It In!: In "I Saw Gener Cryin' In His Sleep," there's this strange bit of feedback that's most likely unintentional because after it, Gene is heard saying, "You fucked it up again!" This was especially prominent on their early releases, where Corpsing, Studio Chatter and bum notes would be left in unedited.
    • God Ween Satan was so low budget that they ended up recording at least one song, "Birthday Boy", over a bootleg cassette tape of Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii - thus the song is bookended by lo-fi snippets of Pink Floyd's "Echoes".
  • Trolling Creator: On the WTF Podcast with Marc Maron, Aaron admitted that, while he enjoys having an actual fanbase, part of him misses the early years when they would open up for other bands, confusing and annoying people who came to see the headliner. On the same show, he admitted he was a little upset when his manager dispelled the rumors that he was transgender because he thought it was hilarious how wrong they were.
