  • Ascended House Rules:
    • Since 2022, the 500 points goal has been downgraded to a House Rule. The mostly universal House Rule of simply being the first to get rid of their hand to win is now the official main victory method.
    • Mattel once held a contest to see what house rules people used, and chose the following three to be added as official variants:
      • "Jump-in Uno": If you have the exact same card as the top of the discard pile, you may play it immediately—even if it isn't your turn. Play continues from the player who "jumped in". Uno Party adds this as an official rule known as "Speed Play", in which anyone who jumps in with a wrong card must take it back and draw one extra card.
      • "Seven-O Uno": Playing a 0 forces every player to pass their hand to the next player in the direction of play, and playing a 7 forces you to trade your hand with a player of your choice.
      • "Progressive Uno": Allows Draw Two and Draw Four cards to be stacked on top of cards of the same type, but does not allow stacking Draw Twos on Draw Fours, and vice versa. The player who cannot continue the stack draws the total amount and loses their turn.
    • The Ubisoft videogame adaptation adds two popular variants: allowing Wild Draw Fours to be played at any time ("No Bluffing") and forcing a player to keep drawing cards until a playable card is available ("Draw to Match").
    • All these rules are included in Uno Show 'Em No Mercy, except the "Jump-in Uno" rule. The "Progressive Uno" rule here allows playing a Draw card of equal or higher value on top of another one (e.g. a Wild Draw 10 played on a Wild Draw 6 on a Draw 4 on a Draw 2 makes +22.)
  • Author's Saving Throw: Due to the removal of the original UNO Flip songs in the Ubisoft game being a general point of criticism amongst fans of the game, Ubisoft later went and brought the old tracks back into the game for the DLC in an update.
  • Cash-Cow Franchise: Of both International Games and Mattel, considering it has the most variants compared to other card games. Skip-Bo and Phase 10 don't match the popularity of Uno despite their sales.
  • Channel Hop: Uno was originally produced by International Games before it was bought out by Mattel in 1992.
  • Completely Different Title: Uno Attack is called Uno Extreme in certain regions.
  • Defictionalization: Dos originally started out as an April Fools prank.
  • Demand Overload: Due to becoming viral on TikTok, Uno Show 'Em No Mercy sold out extremely quickly upon release.
  • Fan-Work Ban: In June 2023, Mattel issued a DMCA takedown notice to Roblox which caused every UNO inspired game on the platform to be removed.
  • Follow the Leader: Discord has a heavily Uno-inspired game called Blazing 8s in its Activities menu.
  • Invisible Advertising: Most variants tend to show up in stores without any fanfare. Some do appear as preorder in online sites.
  • One-Hit Wonder: This game was designer Merle Robbins's only major success.
