General Trivia

Trope-Related Trivia

  • Acting for Two: Taiki Yamazaki plays both genders of Naga's people, although while playing a female he is dubbed over by voice actress Ayumi Tsunematsu.
    • Also done in Kyuranger Final Live Tour 2018, with the rare example for theater of the characters appearing on stage at the same time. Takumi Kizu (Lucky/Shishi Red) and Keisuke Minami (Tsurugi/Houou Soldier) play their regular characters and alternate universe versions of themselves and talk with each other. This comes with the HUGE caveat that in every instance, at least one version is transformed and played by a suit actor performing to pre-recorded audio (not counting the final fight where BOTH Luckys are transformed).
  • Actor Allusion: Several from Fate/Grand Order:
    • Champ has the same VA as Iskandar, whose signature chariot is pulled by - you guessed it - bulls.
    • Garu has the same VA as Cu Chulainn Prototype, who is also known as the Hound of Chulainn and has a general dog motif as well.
    • Cuervo has the same VA as Waver Velvet/Lord El-Melloi II/Zhuge Liang, and, like Zhuge Liang, is a strategist.
  • All-Star Cast: The voice cast for the series is incredibly packed, bringing in powerhouses Kazuya Nakai, Yuki Ono, Akio Ōtsuka, Mao Ichimichi and Hiroshi Kamiya for its main rangers. For the supporting cast, the series packs in Kiyoyuki Yanada, Hiroshi Tsuchida, Naoya Uchida, Yoku Shioya, Eri Kitamura, and Daisuke Namikawa, and many more.
  • The Cast Showoff: On more than few occasions Yosuke Kishi (Stinger) has shown off a very nice singing voice.
  • Fake Shemp: Space 25 deliberately brings back a slew of past characters as solidified memories from the Kyurangers, but Professor Anton gets this treatment but averted later on with the character returning for real.
  • Playing Against Type:
  • Prop Recycling:
    • Usada Lettuce is repainted as a random droid in Episode 1.
    • The waitresses in the Jonjon bar have Gormin armbands on their arms.
    • They get a lot of mileage out of Helheim plants this season, sticking them into outdoor locations to make them look more alien.
    • The show reuses and modifies the Tsuyoindavers and their custom forms alot in the show, with the two customized ones in Episode 9 being two previously used costumes with their heads swapped
    • The Ryu Violet suit is partly recycled from ToQ #7, complete with the same buckle design (with a star symbol in place of the Rainbow Pass).
    • Episode 14 has Jealousto's head visible amongst the civilians at one point, although it's not clear if it was just an alien with his head or Jealousto himself.
    • Also in episode 14, the Pisces Kyutama somehow summons a monstrous alien fish that looks like the swarm of Cell Medal piranhas from Kamen Rider OOO.
    • The T-rex that appears in episode 27 is clearly Gabutyra's model from Kyoryuger.
    • While it's likely a coincidence, Balance has this traditional Thief Bag (olive green with white swirls) that's also been seen being used by Isurugi Souichi/Blood Stark.
    • The final Daikaan is the Black Cross King suit from Gokaiger, painted blue and gold.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: The reason for Champ getting destroyed by Scorpio and getting repaired from Space 16-20 was due to Akio Ōtsuka's schedule at the time.
  • Recycled Set: It's your usual Toei tokusatsu shooting areas, but with filter and props to make it more alien. In particular is the Planet Jonjon's bar in Episode 1 which was the cafe from Kamen Rider OOO.
  • Recast as a Regular:
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The character of Balance was originally devised as "Doctor Balance" and would have been The Smart Guy of the team. It was after the completion of his costume and the casting of Taiki Yamazaki as Naga that he was taken down a more comical route, similar to Fuuka Igasaki. Space 33 having Balance's personality flipped by the Monster of the Week may well be a nod to this original vision.
    • As Balance's appearance was based on C-3PO, producer Takumi Mochizuki considered having his partner be modeled on R2-D2 before Yamazaki was cast, inspiring him to develop a Spock-type character.
    • Hammie's character was conceived as being a high school girl before the casting of Sakurako Okubo, who molded her into a "cheeky little sister" figure.
    • Raptor 283 was originally devised as a "cool beauty", with suit actor Ryoko Gomi considering acting with "sexy" mannerisms when she saw the concept drawing. This was changed to emphasize cuteness in contrast to Hammie.
    • Initially, there was a plan for a parent-child duo of Ursa Major and Ursa Minor inspired by Lone Wolf and Cub. This idea perhaps led to Kotaro Sakuma being paired with Stinger as a little brother figure.
    • There was a time when Weapon Voyagers were thought of to make the DX Set of Kyutamas more appealing to collect. The Futago Voyager would be a pair of scissors and the Pegasus Voyager would a crossbow. Low sales of the Weapon Zyuoh Cubes cancelled this idea, however Orion Voyager remained and was reused as a full robo.
    • Early scans indicated that Ohguma Skyblue was intended to be a full-fledged suit with the Koguma decals removed, instead of the Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever powerup for Koguma Skyblue.
    • Similar to Baron Lemon Energy Arms, Naga's transformation into Hebitsukai Metal was not part of the initial plan and was more of a last-minute deal.
    • There's no Kyuranger vs. Zyuohger. This is possibly due to the series itself taking place in an Alternate Universe than the rest of the Super Sentai series, but it is speculated that the real life reason is actor unavailability. Zyuoh TheWorld appeared as a guest star in Lupinranger vs. Patranger vs. Kyuranger to compensate. The closest to said team-up before the end of Kyuranger's run is the Kyurangers making an Early-Bird Cameo in Zyuohger vs. Ninninger and the two teams being among the teams who took part in the battle in Kamen Rider × Super Sentai: Chou Super Hero Taisen.
      • Interestingly, it's worth noting that if one does hack the Seiza Blaster, there is a sound effect for a Zyuohger Kyutama, suggesting that either the crossover was planned at one point, but scrapped, or they weren't sure if they would go ahead, and ultimately decided not to.
    • If one hacks the Seiza Blaster toy, a Genm Kyutama sound effect can be creatednote , suggesting that it's possible that the crossover with Kamen Rider Ex-Aid was going to be a full-blown TV special as opposed to The Cameo in an episode each of each shownote .
    • Prior to Kyuranger being partially adapted into Cosmic Fury, it would have been extremely likely that had Saban renewed their toy manufacturing partnership with Bandai of America (as opposed to selling the Power Rangers franchise to Hasbro), it would've been adapted instead of Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger after Beast Morphers finished, as it was stated that the cube gimmick from Zyuohger was not feasible for American merchandise and it was unlikely that they'd skip straight to Lupinranger vs. Patranger (on top of the fact that the cops vs robbers theme of the latter was unfeasable, as the rangers couldn't be robbers, and cops would be far too controversial in the current day).
  • Word of God: Director Takayuki Shibasaki assumed that Spada, considering his backstory of providing food for those in need, would naturally have been the first to join the Kyurangers before Champ and Hammie as they are seen in the first episode.
  • You Sound Familiar: Raptor is voiced by Mao Ichimichi, aka Luka, Gokai Yellow, though she sounds nowhere near Luka and closer to Papika or Luluco. Kyuranger vs. Space Squad has a humorous credits scene that specifically points this out, with Luka showing up and getting into an argument with Raptor, while Hammie looks on and remarks that they seem kinda similar for some reason she can't quite place.
