Trivia / The Tom and Jerry Show

Go To

  • Acting for Two: John Stephenson as Tom, Jerry, Spike (occasionally) and the odd incidental part.
  • Executive Meddling: Joseph Barbera blamed the show's Lighter and Softer tone on this. In his words...
"We ran into a stone wall because some citizens, for the protection of the children of the world, have decided cartoons are evil, that they're violent and full of mayhem. We showed [ABC] five of the old 'Tom and Jerrys' and they laughed so hard, they had tears in their eyes. Then they said 'We can't use them. If we put those on, we'll get killed.'"
  • Edited for Syndication: When the shorts from the show air on Cartoon Network and Boomerang, the beginning and end title credits are excised along with the opening because the shorts are mixed in to play with the MGM shorts. This is averted on the Boomerang streaming service as well as the TBS airings in The '80s and The '90s.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The show has never received a full DVD release for unknown reasons, and Cartoon Network and Boomerang only aired reruns of the show until 2013. However, the premiere was released as part of the Saturday Morning Cartoons – 1970s Volume 2 DVD, and "Cosmic Cat and Meteor Mouse" was released as part of the Tom and Jerry: The Deluxe Anniversary Collection DVD. Three episodes are available on digital, and most of the episodes are available on the Boomerang streaming servicenote .
