Trivia / The Legend of Valkyrie

Go To

  • Colbert Bump: Let's be honest, the only reason most of us outside of Japan are even aware of this series' existence is because of either Project × Zone or recognizing Cassandra's bonus outfit from Soul Calibur II.
  • Dueling Works: Valkyrie no Bōken: Toki no Kagi Densetsu had to contend with being released the same year as The Legend of Zelda and Dragon Quest, both of which heavily defined the JRPG genre. While Valkyrie largely distinguishes itself as a standalone work and was enough of a hit that it's still a well-loved classic (in part because it was released for a budget price compared to other Famicom RPGs), it obviously suffered from No Export for You while Zelda became an immediate international phenomenon and Dragon Quest was a domestic cash-cow and eventual international success.
  • Late Export for You: The Legend of Valkyrie's first international release was in 1997, nearly a decade after the original Japanese release in 1989.
  • Sequel First: Sandra no Daibōken, the third game in the series, was the first to be released outside of Japan. The Legend of Valkyrie, the second game, came soon afterward in Namco Museum Volume 5; Valkyrie no Bōken has yet to be exported.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The Legend of Valkyrie was originally planned to have a 4-player option available, with Sabine and Zul joining Valkyrie and Kurino.
    • Furthermore, there were originally going to be two other Valkyries at one point joining the original Valkyrie and Kurino.
