Trivia / The Book of Pooh

Go To

  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Aside from several VHS releases containing three or four episodes each, as well as the DVD Stories from the Heart, the series was never made officially available for viewing in its entirety on home media, official websites, or video streaming and floundered in obscurity until 2019 (fifteen years after it ended) when it was added to Disney+ on its release day.
  • Kids' Meal Toy: In the US, McDonald's released a set of eight toys in their Happy Meals as a tie-in with the Stories From the Heart VHS and DVD release. Four of these toys were also sold in Asia.
  • Non-Singing Voice: While John Fiedler reprises Piglet in the series, Jeff Bennett provides his singing voice. This is taken to the finest detail, since Fiedler still usually provides any spoken word in the show's songs, making the difference in actors very noticeable at times.
  • The Other Darrin: Nearly all the recurring Pooh cast of the time reprised their roles, though Christopher Robin and Kessie have new actors. Stephanie Ann D'Abruzzo replaces Tracy Rowe as Kessie, and Paul Tiesler replaces Tom Attenborough as Christopher Robin.
  • Out of Holiday Episode: "My Gloomy Valentine" is (unsurprisingly) a Valentine's-themed episode where the gang tries to find Eeyore a gift to celebrate. The episode premiered in April 2002, after the holiday.
  • Playing Against Type: Roger L. Jackson, best known for his roles as hammy villains, plays the soft spoken, ever genial Mr. Narrator.
  • Production Posse: Series creator Mitchell Kriegman (and his production company, Shadow Projects) and many of the directors, writers and puppeteers on this show had previously worked on Bear in the Big Blue House. Pooh is puppeteered by Peter Linz (Tutter, Pip), Tigger is performed by Tyler Bunch (Treelo, Pop), Piglet is operated by Eric Jacobson (Harry the Duck), Rabbit by Noel MacNeal (Bear), Owl by Tim Lagasse (an ensemble puppeteer on Bear), Kanga by Jen Barnhart (Miss Maxwell), Roo by Vicki Eibner (Ojo), and Kessie is voiced by Stephanie D'Abruzzo (ensemble puppeteer). Eibner also voiced Christopher Robin's mother. Most of the series' other puppeteers, including Carol Binion, Ron Binion (Eeyore), Matthew Brooks, Eric Engelhardt, James Godwin, BJ Guyer, Jim Kroupa, Jon Ludwig, Rick Lyon, Lara MacLean, Amanda Maddock, Paul McGinnis, Anney McKilligan, John Tartaglia, Alice Dinnean-Vernon, Robin Walsh, and Victor Yerrid, have also worked on both Bear and Kriegman's next puppet series, It's a Big Big World.
  • Role Reprise: The then-current voice actors for the Winnie the Pooh characters reprise their roles in this series (Jim Cummings as Pooh and Tigger, John Fiedler as Piglet, Ken Sansom as Rabbit, Peter Cullen as Eeyore, and Andre Stojka as Owl). Kanga and Roo are voiced by Kath Soucie and Nikita Hopkins, respectively, having made their major debuts as those characters in The Tigger Movie.
  • Similarly Named Works: The Penguins of Madagascar, Phineas and Ferb and Totally Spies! also have episodes titled "Brain Drain".
