Trivia / Still Cruisin'

Go To

  • Breakaway Pop Hit: "Kokomo" became the fourth Beach Boys song to top the US charts, 21 years after "Good Vibrations" which was the last time the band would achieve this.
  • Bury Your Art: This is only one of two albums in the band's discography to never be reissued, alongside Summer in Paradise. Not only were the pair widely considered the band's worst albums by audiences (with the latter also being a commercial failure), but they were also derided by the band themselves, with even Mike Love (of whom Summer in Paradise was the brainchild) scarcely mentioning the projects in his memoir. The only representation the album sees post-release is "Kokomo" being a Greatest Hits Album staple, and even then it was originally included on the Cocktail soundtrack.
  • Critic-Proof: The album went Gold despite an overwhelming amount of critics panning it. Rolling Stone in particular wrote: "If you've been waiting for the Beach Boys to hit rock bottom, the suspense is over."
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Alongside Summer in Paradise, Still Cruisin' is one of the only two Beach Boys albums to never be reissued, not even digitally. Consequently, the only legal way to listen to the album is through seeking out old secondhand copies.
  • Recycled Script: The last three tracks are "I Get Around" (from 1964's All Summer Long), "Wouldn't It Be Nice" (from 1966's Pet Sounds) and "California Girls" (from 1965's Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!). These aren't old songs rerecorded for the album, those are the actual original songs put on the tracklist as is.
  • What Could Have Been: The "Wipeout" cover was originally planned to have the trio Run–D.M.C. rapping on it. The Beach Boys opted for the Fat Boys for availability reasons.
