Trivia / Still Game

  • Accent Depundent: There's a lot of wordplay relying on the character's Glaswegian accents, such as Isa misunderstanding "Et tu, Isa?" as "Ate two, Isa?" in "Hyper."
  • Accidentally-Correct Writing: In the 2007 episode "Hootenanny", Navid switches on the TV to This Morning and says "Hello Phil, you big poofter". Phillip Schofield came out as gay in 2020.
  • Acting for Two: Every single offscreen male, whether it's a radio DJ or a TV Weather man will be voiced by Ford Kiernan (Jack).
    • Played for laughs in the last episode of Series 4 where Sanjeev Kohli portrays his usual role of Navid and his (supposed) illegitimate son.
  • Actor Allusion: Paul Young (who plays Shug) is known for fronting several television shows about fishing on the BBC, STV and laterly the Discovery Channel. Shug, of course, is the go-to man when Jack and Victor want to go fishing.
  • The Character Died with Him: Jake D'Arcy died in 2015, as a result his character Pete the Jakey dies offscreen in Episode 2 of the 2016 revival.
  • Dawson Casting: Most of the regular pensioner cast are half the age of the characters they portray, with makeup, wigs and prosthetic completing the illusion. An exception is Eric, whose actor (James Martin) was in his 70's when the show began.
  • Fake Brit: Averted; Greg Hemphill (Victor) grew up in Canada but was born in Glasgow. He has a very distinctive mixed accent in Real Life.
  • The Other Darrin: When it was still a play - Gavin Mitchell was replaced as Winston by Paul Riley, although Mitchell would return in the television series as Boabie the Barman.
  • Production Posse: Effingee Productions has one. Ford Kiernan (Jack), Greg Hemphill (Victor) and Paul Riley (Winston) played the roles in the original play and worked together in Chewin' the Fat. Mark Cox (Tam) joined them in Chewin' The Fat and moved over with them to Still Game. After Still Game, Kiernan and Riley starred together in Dear Green Place, while Gavin Mitchell (Boabie) also joined Kiernan in Happy Holidays.
  • Reality Subtext: The discussion of how tired "Gonnae no dae that" is in the episode Scones - which was the catch phrase from Kiernan and Hemphill's sketch show Chewin' the Fat and used ad naseaum on the playgrounds of Scotland.
  • Recycled Script: Many of the stories and gags told in the original play were reused in the TV series, including Winston faking a knee problem to get home help, Jack going to Canada and Victor pretending to be ill to get attention from his son.
  • Underage Casting: The whole premise of the show is a bunch of 30 and 40 year olds playing 70 and 80 year olds. In fact, Kiernan and Hemphill were asked out by several older women while in character as Jack and Victor.
  • What Could Have Been: After seeing the original play in Edinburgh, Sean Connery requested the role of Winston should they ever make a television series.
