Trivia / Speed Racer X

  • Development Hell: The English dub spent four years in limbo due to Speed Racer Enterprises being unable to find a channel willing to air the show before DiC Entertainment picked it up and dubbed it in 2002. Unfortunately contractual disagreements between the two companies and Nickelodeon cancelling their "SLAM!" block (the block the show aired on) led to the American run's demise.
  • Executive Meddling: When it was failing to catch on with audiences and the ratings, the original director was fired, causing the production to be suddenly overhauled. Although this might have been for the better, it still failed to bring the ratings up and production ceased after the 34th episode, with 52 stories originally having been planned.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: While averted now the original Japanese series has been released on blu-ray (though you have to buy the complete collector's edition from Funimation), the episodes dubbed by DiC are hard to come by.
  • Out of Order: The English dub's episode order differs a bit to the original Japanese release, notably, the last 3 episodes dubbed being Episodes 14, 15 & 17 of the latter.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers:
  • Unfinished Dub: Only 13 episodes were dubbed into English, and not in their original order.
  • Unspecified Role Credit: Like the original anime, this version credits the voice actors, though unlike the original they do list who voices whom. However, they don't list everyone as some actors were left out.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • As mentioned, it was meant to run for 52 episodes.
    • If the series had good ratings, Tatsunoko was going to remake Science Ninja Team Gatchaman next.
