In General

The Band

  • Creator's Oddball: Omnipresent. While it does have a few songs in their established style, the majority of the album is a major departure, with extremely prominent grindcore, mathcore, and black metal elements that were hinted at on previous and subsequent material but were never the primary focus. It's still a polarizing release, but the band themselves like it, and "Unattainable Zero" has been a setlist staple ever since it was released. This has lessened somewhat with the release of Chaosmos, which has a less eclectic take on the same general style that they explored on the former.
  • The Pete Best: Fluke played on one EP, left the band, and more or less disappeared from the music business in general. He's still apparently friends with the band, however.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Jeremy Turner briefly played for Cannibal Corpse when Jack Owen left and they weren't able to find a full-time replacement fast enough.
  • Schedule Slip: Chaosmos broke the "every three years" schedule they had stuck to since Informis for various reasons - while the COVID-19 pandemic was a major one, Paul had barely started writing by the time it hit, and the band was substantially less active for the Unparalleled Universe tour cycle in general and Jason and John spent much of their time before 2020 working with other bands. It didn't help, but even if the pandemic hadn't occurred, it probably wouldn't have been out before 2021 either way.
  • Star-Making Role: John Longstreth was mostly unknown during his time in Angelcorpse and only became famous through his work with Origin, while Jason Keyser was already somewhat known in the Northeast and in underground death metal as a whole for his work with Mucopus and managed to become known to a wider audience during his time in Skinless, but only managed to achieve truly major recognition when he joined Origin.
