Trivia / Origami Yoda

Go To

  • Approval of God: Author Tom Angleberger frequently posts pictures of fan-submitted origami on his website. He's even acknowledged the Origami Yoda Expanded Universe, and referenced fans in his books. See here for the website.
  • Diagnosis of God: Dwight and Harvey are both confirmed to have Asperger's syndrome, like Angleberger, making them more similar. It's never said that either of them have Asperger's in-universe, and in fact Angleberger has actually stated that Dwight is undiagnosed, but in hindsight, the girls in Tippett Academy may have had a point in calling him "special". Dwight also has several of the characteristics, such as an aversion to physical contact and being eccentric.
  • Fan Community Nickname: Fans who upload origami to Tom Angleberger's website are known as "SuperFolders".
  • Shrug of God: Tom Angleberger's reaction when asked if Murky was actually gay.
  • Word of Gay: Averted with Murky. Murky is bullied in the books because the other kids think he's gay, and it's unclear whether he is actually gay. When asked if he was, Tom said that he couldn't give an honest answer for that, because Murky is only a 6th-grader, and probably wouldn't figure out if he was gay until high school.
  • Word of Saint Paul: Another author, Jay Asher, was trying to come up with a title for a book he was writing, and he was thinking of things that rhymed with "fortune cookie": "fortune bookie", "fortune lookie", etc. He came up with "fortune Wookiee", and decided it would be a good title for an Origami Yoda book, so he sent it along to author Tom Angleberger. Angleberger didn't even find out until later that it was a pun on "fortune cookie"!
  • Write Who You Know: Dwight was based on how author Tom Angleberger was as a child.
