Trivia / No One Lives Forever

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Averted in NOLF 1, despite Kit Harris voicing both Cate Archer and Inge Wagner: they never actually talk to each other. Played straight in NOLF 2, where Jen Taylor voices both Cate Archer and Isako, who talk to each other several times in-between their fights.
  • Bonus Material: The Game Of The Year edition of the first game has a long extra mission which starts after the ending credits. The PS2 version adds yet another mission, a flashback on Cate's past activities.
  • Franchise Killer: Contract J.A.C.K. was so bad that Monolith gave up on the series entirely because of it.
  • Hey, It's That Sound!:
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Thanks to a complex series of acquisitions, mergers, and various other publisher mix-ups, no one actually knows who owns the rights to NOLF anymore, so the public is unlikely to see any kind of authorized re-release anytime soon.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: In relation to the above, in 2015, Nightdive Studios tried sorting the rights mess out and pushing for a re-release of both games. The effort ended with potential rights owners 20th Century Foxnote , Activisionnote  and Monolith's parent company Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment all sending a legal letter which basically said, "We think we own the rights but it's not worth the expense currently to go through our archives to find out for sure, but if you try to use this intellectual property, we will sue you."
  • The Other Darrin: Cate Archer's voice actress was switched between the first and second games; in the second game, she's voiced by the very well known Jen Taylor.
  • What Could Have Been: The game was originally set to be a straight spy thriller set in the '60s, with no humor involved. MGM/UA warned they would sue with the James Bond-like male secret agent Monolith had initially planned, leading to the creation of Cate Archer and, later, the shift towards parody.
