Trivia / Neverwhere

Go To

  • All-Star Cast: In the 2013 BBC Radio production, where James McAvoy plays Richard Mayhew, Natalie Dormer plays Door, and Benedict Cumberbatch plays the Angel Islington, just to name a few.
  • Development Hell:
    • The Film of the Book, which may yet grace the silver screen.
    • The Seven Sisters — not a direct sequel, but taking place in the same universe of London Below — has yet to materialize. As of November 2018, Neil Gaiman has stated he's written four chapters or so.
  • Reality Subtext: It is unknown if this was intentional, but the bits of the book that take part in the Angel Tube station can have this impact, due to Angel being home to Slimelight, a long running alternative nightclub. It is not uncommon for ordinary commuters there to be accompanied by club patrons with some interesting ideas about fashion.
  • Role Reprise: In the BBC Radio 4 version of "How the Marquis Got His Coat Back", the Marquis is played by Paterson Joseph, who played him in the original TV version of "Neverwhere", instead of David Harewood, who played him in the radio version. The change is justified In-Universe by saying the Marquis' voice changed after his throat was cut.
  • Similarly Named Works: Neverwhere is also the name of an animated short by Richard Corben, which was adapted into the Den that later became a segment of Heavy Metal.
  • Throw It In!: The actor playing Varney broke his leg whilst filming the scene where he tries to flee Croup and Vandemar in the Mail Rail tunnels. As well as using the shot of him falling over, another scene was reworked to have Varney lying down (instead of walking around) to hide the fact his leg was broken.
