Trivia / Nacho Libre

Go To

  • Cast the Expert: Ramses was played by the late César González, also known as lucha libre star Silver King, while California indie circuit star Human Tornado and mini-estrella Mascarita Dorada had minor roles as El Tornado and one-half of Los Duendes, respectively.
  • Fake Nationality: The fact that the Mexican Nacho is played by the very-obviously-not-Mexican Jack Black is amusingly handwaved with this line.
Ignacio: My mother was a Lutheran minister from Scandinavia, and my father a deacon from Mexico. They tried to convert each other, but they got married instead.
  • Harpo Does Something Funny: The song that Nacho sings at the party was a song that Jack Black himself quickly wrote shortly before shooting.
  • Irony As He Is Cast: Nacho is a very Catholic man (if struggling with the desire to wrestle). Jack Black himself identifies as being an Atheistic Jewish man.
  • On-Set Injury: Jack Black sustained both a black eye and a cut when he botched a jump from the ring in one match scene.
  • Separated-at-Birth Casting: Troy Gentile who played Jable as a child looks and emotes very similar to Jack Black. He also played a child Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny the same year.
  • Star-Making Role: Ana de la Reguera's first entry into a big-budget Hollywood production and it put her on the map in American cinema.
  • Stillborn Franchise: Jack Black and Mike White have both expressed interest in doing a sequel, with White's only publicly-released idea being that Nacho "goes to Japan", but nothing has ever come of it.
  • What Could Have Been: Adam Sandler was originally offered the lead role but turned it down as he found the premise insulting (Sandler is a big wrestling fan in real life).
