  • Bad Export for You: The original English MSX2 version of Metal Gear has a number of the game's radio messages edited and a few others removed. Reportedly, only 86 of the game's 116 messages were kept. On the positive side, the edited messages were to reflect the Cultural Translation trope.
  • Disowned Adaptation: Hideo Kojima has been vocal about his criticism towards the Nintendo Entertainment System version. He considers the game difficult for the wrong reasons, going as far as to call it a cheaply made knockoff that only resembles the MSX2 original he made In Name Only.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The NES version, which would not see a re-release outside of a Japan-exclusive special edition of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. It would not be until 2023 where this was subverted, as the NES version would be present alongside the MSX2 version in Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1.
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot: Considering the original idea wasn't a stealth game, if the MSX2's limitations hadn't been a concern that turned the game into one, the series could have been very different from what it is today.
  • Translation Correction: One of the few improvements that the NES version made over the MSX2 original was renaming the boss character Shoot Gunner to the more sensible Shotgunner.
