Trivia / Mega Man X5

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Both X and Dynamo are voiced by Showtaro Morikubo.
  • Creator Backlash: Capcom seemingly feels this way about the Guns N' Roses inspired names, as Legacy Collection 2 did away with them.
  • Dub Name Change: Rather infamously, the original English translation of the game (handled by one Alyson Court — yes, Claire Redfield's original voice actress) used Guns N' Roses-inspired names for the Maverick bosses instead of more accurate translations of their Japanese names: Crescent Grizzly became Grizzly Slash, Tidal Whale became Duff McWhalen, Volt Kraken became Squid Adler, Burn Dinorex became Mattrex, Dark Necrobat became Dark Dizzy, Shining Firefly became Izzy Glow, Spiral Pegasus became The Skiver, and Spike Rosered became Axle the Red. note
  • Fan Translation: A retranslation of the game's Japanese script is included with some variants of the Mega Man X5 Improvement Addendum ROM Hack.
  • Manual Misprint: The instruction manual refers to the Maverick bosses by direct transliterations of their Japanese names, instead of their English GNR names. The Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 nixed these names altogether, referring to the bosses as more accurate English translations of their original names.
  • No Budget: After Mega Man X4 underperformed in sales, the budget for X5 was substantially reined in. It's most obvious when comparing the cutscenes from both games, with X4 having fully animated anime cutscenes with voice acting while X5 uses static images and text. The only boss to have any in-battle voice quotes was Dynamo. Ironically, X5 would actually go on to outsell its prequel, leading to Capcom continuing the series against Keiji Inafune's wishes, which also impacted his plans for the Mega Man Zero series in the process
  • Refitted for Sequel: Tidal Whale was originally conceived for Mega Man X4, but he was cut because no one could agree on his design. (Should he be bigger than the already big Frost Walrus? Should he have fins instead of arms to look more like a whale? etc.) He was finally used in X5, though developer comments imply that there still wasn't a full consensus on his design.
