Trivia / Lupin III: Blood Seal ~Eternal Mermaid~

• Casting Gag: The English dub casts Keith Silverstein as Arsène Lupin I, referencing him voicing Lupin III in the dubs of the Takeshi Koike-directed film series that began with Jigen's Gravestone.
• Creator Couple: Richard Epcar wrote and directed the English dub in addition to voicing Daisuke Jigen, and his wife Ellyn Stern voiced Masae Todo in that dub.
• Directed by Cast Member: As with the English dubs of Part II and The Italian Adventure, Richard Epcar was the ADR director and Daisuke Jigen's voice actor.
• In Memoriam: The English credits for this special include dedications to Goro Naya, Makio Inoue, and Kazuhiko Kato (a.k.a Monkey Punch). All were alive when this special aired in Japan, though Naya just barely, but had died by the time it hit foreign shores.
• Late Export for You: The special didn't get a North American release until 2019, eight years after its Japanese premiere. Luckily it also got an English dub.
• Milestone Celebration: Blood Seal ~Eternal Mermaid~ premiered in 2011, the 40th anniversary of the Lupin III TV series.
• The Other Darrin: This was the first Lupin special following the cast overhaul.
  • Kan'ichi Kurita (Lupin) was already one as he had assumed his role in 1995 following Yasuo Yamada's sudden death. Meanwhile, Daisuke Namikawa voices Goemon Ishikawa XIII instead of Makio Inoue; Miyuki Sawashiro voices Fujiko Mine instead of Eiko Masuyama; and Kōichi Yamadera plays Inspector Zenigata instead of Gorō Naya – Naya's health problems were well-known by the time this special came out and indeed he didn't live too long after it. This left Kiyoshi Kobayashi (Jigen) as the only original cast member left, and he managed to keep going for another decade before finally retiring in October 2021 at age 88, having voiced Jigen for 52 years.
  • The English dub – which has the distinction of being the first TV Special Discotek chose to dub – qualifies. This was only the second special to be dubbed outside of Funimation's block (1993-2000)^*  The first was Bye Bye Liberty Crisis, which had been dubbed in London back in the mid-90's. In this case, Discotek opted to use the Part 4 voice cast they'd already assembled, which itself qualifies due to being identical to the "Red Jacket" cast except with Doug Erholtz replacing Dan Lorge as Zenigata.
• Studio Hop: The English dubs of the fifth through twelfth TV specials were handled by Funimation and Gravestone of Daisuke Jigen was recorded at Bang Zoom! Entertainment. For Blood Seal ~Eternal Mermaid~, Discotek Media partnered with Epcar Entertainment, who produced the dub.
