Trivia / Jonah Hex (2010)

Go To

  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, $47 million. Box office, $10,547,117. Too many people thought "It's Short, So It Sucks!!" (clocking in at 81 minutes), and coming out the same weekend as Toy Story 3 didn't do it any favors either.
  • Creator Backlash: Like Tony de Zuniga, both Josh Brolin and Megan Fox hate this film.
  • Creator Killer: This is the last film written by the duo of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, and, apart from Free Birds, it would be a while before director Jimmy Hayward would do serious work again, being part of Zootopia and Cars 3 (though after Free Birds itself flopped, it would be his last directing job for now). Finally, this is one of two 2010 films to deliver a serious setback to the career of producer Andrew Lazar.
  • Disowned Adaptation: Jonah Hex's original artist Tony de Zuniga didn't like the film.
  • Executive Meddling: Hex was scarred and nearly killed which somehow gave him the ability to talk to the dead (don’t ask, cause they don’t explain). Hex is now a bounty hunter who is hired by President Grant to stop a plot to take over America by Turnbull using what appears to be Dragonballs? Apparently the original script by Neveldine/Taylor (writers of Crank) was quite good. Something drastic must have happened or the producers got scared, because this movie was deformed worse than Hex’s face.
  • Missing Trailer Scene: One of the trailers for the film shows the briefest glimpse of a sex scene involving Megan Fox's character, which not only isn't to be found in the final film, it isn't even a deleted scene on the DVD.
  • No Stunt Double: Megan Fox insisted on doing her own stunts in Jonah Hex, only using a stunt double for one scene which would've been too dangerous for her to do by herself.
  • Playing Against Type: Will Arnett was very keen to appear in the film, mainly because he so rarely gets offered straight dramatic roles.
  • Uncredited Role:
    • Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Jeb Turnbull.
    • Jimmy Hayward reportedly did an uncredited re-write of the screenplay.
  • What Could Have Been: Thomas Jane showed interest in playing Jonah Hex to the point of having himself photographed in costume complete with special make-up to recreate the character's massive facial scarring. He would later lend his voice for the character in DC Showcase: Jonah Hex. Emile Hirsch and Matthew McConaughey were considered for the role.
