• Follow the Leader: If you're familiar with The Ring or the work of Junji Ito, you'll find a lot of similarities here, both broad (the cycle of monster kills everyone, lives on as rumour is very Ito-like) and specific (fingernails stuck in a wall a la Sadako).
  • The plot element of the main character being blamed for the murders committed by a living urban legend also evokes Candyman.
