Trivia / High Spirits

• Box Office Bomb: Budget, $17 million. Box office, $8,578,231.
• The Danza: Peter O'Toole as Peter Plunkett.
• Executive Meddling: Jordan, who wrote and directed the film, intended it to be more serious. There was more scenes with Liam Neeson, and the ghosts were more involved in the plot, but the studio had no idea how to market it and recut it against Jordan's wishes. A shorter version of this cut was released in Japan.
• Fake Irish: Daryl Hannah, complete with terrible accent. Peter O'Toole doesn't even try (he was half Irish at least). The rest of the Irish cast are actually Irish actors, though.
• The Other Marty: Liz Smith was cast at short notice after the original choice, Beryl Reid, was too ill to work.
• What Could Have Been: Sean Connery was signed on to play Peter Plunkett, but had to drop out right before shooting due to scheduling issues.
