  • Franchise Killer: Beast Rider, an attempt to reboot a series that hadn't seen a new installment in almost 15 years, with the final result looking like a poor man's version of Heavenly Sword. It took until another 15 years after it released for a new game to get announced.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Unfortunately, The Revenge of Death Adder is the only installment in the series that has never been ported to any home console or download service, which is a shame as it would've been a great launch title for the Sega Saturn or Sega 32X.
    • Thankfully, the Sega Astro City Mini will contain the The Revenge of Death Adder, giving it its first home port.
    • There's the Arcade 1Up Cabinet that comes with The Revenge of Death Adder, the first game, and couple of other early Sega arcade games.
  • Port Overdosed: The Sega Genesis port of the original is one of the most consistently included games in Sega's many, many Genesis collections and re-release lines, dating back to the late 90's and continuing even into the 2020's.
  • Troubled Production: A thread from one of the developers of the failed SEGA Reborn Golden Axe remake said the pitch was a nightmare to make. Crunch hours, the suits not knowing what they wanted for the project, and health issues doomed the remake to obscurity. Sega bringing back a playable prototype (under the name "Golden Axed") for their 60th anniversary was a bit of a sore spot for those who worked on the project.
  • Urban Legend of Zelda: The rumor that the death screams were recordings of death row inmates. They're actually samples from various action films. The death scream from the first game is a soundbyte from Conan the Barbarian (1982) sped up (compare this to this).
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Boris Vallejo created cover art for III which went unused.
    • Before shutting down, game studio SEGA Australia was planning to do SEGA Reborn, a series of 3D remakes including Golden Axe, with some CrossOver elements between titles. Golden Axe Reborn's abandoned prototype was released in SEGA's 60th anniversary as "Golden Axed: A Cancelled Prototype".
