• Completely Different Title:
  • The English title isn't remotely close to the Chinese one.
  • In Thai it's ศึกรักพิชิตบัลลังก์/Sèuk Rák Pí-chít Ban-lang, meaning something like "War to Conquer the Throne".
• Dawson Casting: Wallace Chung (born 1974) and Angelababy (born 1989) play characters who are the same age.
• "Do It Yourself" Theme Tune: Wallace Chung (Chu Bei Jie) sang "一支孤芳/Yī Zhī Gū Fāng/A Lone Flower".
• Executive Meddling: An especially weird example. The series was made when China's censors, for reasons known only to themselves, wouldn't allow series to be set in fictional dynasties. So the novel's fictional dynasty had to be changed to the Jin dynasty in the series.
