Trivia / Five Nights at Treasure Island

Go To

  • Adaptation Overdosed: As a result of being stuck in Development Hell, Treasure Island has had multiple versions and builds created by fans following the original version in an attempt at completing it fully. Only by 6.0 did the game receive an official final version.
  • Celebrity Voice Actor: In the Oblitus Casa Troll Demo, DEEZ is voiced by none other than motherfuckin' Samuel L. Jackson note ! However, for the game proper, he was recast with Rick Hunter.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: On the game's official wiki following the release of 6.0, the game's director Nocturnum frequently blocks people from the wiki for this reason, using the first instance of any misinformation on the wiki as an excuse to do so.
  • Creator Backlash: Nocturnum, the game's director, hates everything about the initial 6.0 version of Treasure Island that he made with his team, intending to recreate it to his standard with the following 6.5 version.
  • Descended Creator:
    • AnArt1996, the game's original creator, provides the voices for Classic Photo-Negative Mickey and Classic Oswald.
    • Undying's unintelligible groaning is actually provided by the game's director, Nocturnum.
  • Franchise Ownership Acquisition: The Five Nights at Treasure Island title was originally owned by AnArt1996, officially. Then, it unofficially switched between the likes of Malrat and PuritySinners, before Nocturnum became its new official owner after AnArt1996. The original owner of the game reprised his voicing role as the Big Bad of the first game for Nocturnum's version.
  • Role Reprise: AnArt1996 returns to voice Photo-Negative Mickey in the 2020 version, which is the character he played in the game's first version in 2014.
  • Saved from Development Hell: Treasure Island went through lots of builds, demos, and developers. Many thought that it was impossible to get an official full version of the game. It was only when Radiance took over that the game was finally able to fully release in 2020, with even a sequel two years later.
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot: In the classic version, Oswald's textures are described as being "messed up" within the game's universe in Night 2's phone call, and is the cause of him being all-black and blending into the darkness. The texture issue was actually caused by an out-of-universe model issue, which was implemented into the game as canon.
  • The Walrus Was Paul: Five Nights at Treasure Island is a horror story that is clearly a load of nonsense with no real lore or message, which leads to it being the punchline of plenty of community-based jokes, as the creators have never taken it seriously.
  • Trolling Creator: Not so much regarding AnArt1996, though he was prone to joking about; on the other hand, the Radiance Team that took hold of the game's IP in the late 2010s, led by Nocturnum/Andrew, is essentially a group of Trolls who act as game developers rather than the other way around.
  • What Could Have Been: Across the years, the many versions of Treasure Island introduced many ideas that never made it into the final game, themselves having unused content.
    • Classic (1.0)
      • There was a concept image made by Treasure Island’s creator, that showcased several things: that Photo-Negative Mickey would have been closer to Abandoned By Disney’s version, that the original would have a power-sapping mechanic (which wouldn’t be introduced until later versions) and that the game was during the afternoon hours rather than the early morning.
      • At one point, Pluto was going to have a chicken head, as a reference to The Mad Doctor.
      • Jake Smith was once going to be a female character named Dohna.
      • The original incarnation of Hourglass, a crawling green humanoid, was going to be featured in 1.0. This was scrapped, and this incarnation of Hourglass would be featured one more in 2.0. before being scrapped altogether and eventually reimagined into the current version.
    • 2.0.:
      • The original versions of the Shades from Oblitus Casa were supposed to be based off horror characters. The only ones with this idea shown were Photo-Negative Minnie (based off Jeff the Killer) and Oswald, who never made it into the modeling stage but was going to be based off SCP-173.
      • 2.0. had a series of challenge modes, that would have rewarded the player with trophies of the characters.
    • 3.0.:
      • MickMick was going to be the main antagonist of 3.0., but was replaced by Willy, who himself would eventually be replaced later on.
      • As 3.0. was cancelled, the new character based off Ortensia never got to appear.
    • 4.0.:
      • Disembodied was going to have a sailor hat in this version before it was scrapped. The hat would finally make it to his head in the final.
    • 5.0.:
    • Final:
      • The menu was going to have several cameos, including The Voice from the little-known-about 5.7. version and Orange from Blue Oddities.
      • The original version of Oswald from 1.0. was going to join the original versions of Photo-Negative Mickey and The Face in the Custom Night. He was scrapped as the developers thought there were too many characters dealt with by turning off a camera.
      • Willy had two different planned mechanics at one point: one where a hat would appear if you looked at him and he would kill you with too many hats on the table, and another where you would simply scare him off by turning off a camera.
      • There were once cutscenes taking place in a cabin, where Photo-Negative Mickey would mess with you. There even exists an animation of the inverted mouse running.
      • The menu was once planned to change as you progressed, with Oswald after Night 1 and The Face after Night 3.
      • The game was once going to open with a sequence of you exploring the island, where Pete would have been an enemy.
      • The original punishment for having the lights off too long was a “Shadow Mickey” appearing and killing you. This was replaced with the lights simply not turning back on.
  • Writer Conflicts with Canon: This is the state of the 2020 version and its sequel Oblitus Casa. According to the creators, while the overall story is still the same, the universe itself had numerous changes made to it, so everything besides the story and most of the characters are no longer canon, including designs, backstories, and the post-night cutscenes that feature MOTHER.
