Screwed by the Lawyers: The Conan Doyle Estate filed a frivolous lawsuit against Netflix, claiming the film violated copyright by depicting Sherlock Holmes as "having emotions", as that aspect of the character didn't appear until 1923 and therefore hadn't fallen into public domain yet. Although the lawsuit was dismissed, Henry Cavill admitted that his original, more emotional take had to be carefully pared back because "the legal stuff is above my pay grade".
Underage Casting: Sam Claflin is three years younger than Henry Cavill, and he plays the oldest Holmes sibling.
What Could Have Been: Eudoria's part as first written was much smaller, and Helena Bonham Carter's agent initially tried to persuade her from accepting such a small role. Although Helena was happy to take it, appreciating Eudoria's depth in spite of her small screen time, she features more in the final cut than she did in the original script.
