     1960- 1987 

1960

  • March 6th: Takeo Saeki is born.

1966

  • April 8th: Kayako Kawamata (later Saeki) is born.

Between 1966-1987

  • Kayako attends college alongside Shunsuke Kobayashi and his future wife Manami. Kayako falls in love with Kobayashi, becoming a Stalker with a Crush.
  • Kayako and Takeo marry.

1987

  • July 27th: Toshio Saeki is born.

     1994 - Ju-On: The Curse 

April-June

  • Toshio starts his first day of class at elementary school, Kayako learning Kobayashi is his teacher.
  • Kayako keeps a Secret Diary detailing her obsession with Kobayashi.
  • Takeo reads the diary, believing that his wife is having an affair with Kobayashi, and that Toshio may not even be his child.
  • Out of a jealous rage, Takeo murders Kayako by breaking her neck and stabbing her with a boxcutter. He murders Toshio’s pet cat Mar in the process.
  • Kayako’s body is stashed in the attic of the Saeki househol.
  • Toshio hides in a closet as Takeo leaves the house.
  • The Saeki curse is born from the rage and sorrow felt by Kayako, who becomes a Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl. Toshio is consumed by the curse, he and Mar’s ghosts developing a symbiotic existence.
  • When Toshio does not attend school, Kobayashi becomes concerned and decides to visit his house to find out why.
  • Kobayashi finds Toshio alone at home, his parents both missing. Things soon start to get weird when Kobayashi hears an unseen cat meowing outside, unaware Toshio is the source. He rings Manami to tell her his situation, but she hangs up to answer the door.
  • Manami’s visitor turns out to be Takeo, who brutally murders her and extracts her unborn daughter. A second curse is born within Koyabashi’s apartment.
  • Kobayashi finds Kayako’s journal, learning of her obsession. He goes to leave, but is drawn to a closet leading up to the attic, where he finds Kayako’s Peekaboo Corpse. He attempts to flee the house with Toshio, but receives a phone call from Takeo, who reveals he has murdered Manami and her daughter. Kayako’s ghost emerges from the attic and crawls down the stairs, appearing above Kobayashi as he tries escaping out the front door and kills him.
  • Takeo wanders the streets of Tokyo. Kayako emerges out of a rubbish bag and kills her husband, who later appears as a ghost.
  • The police investigate the murders in both homes. Yuji Toyama is a member of the investigation, but retires from the police when disturbed by the curse.

     1995 - Ju-On: The Curse (cont'd), Katasumi, and 44444444 
  • A year after the Saeki murders, the Murakamis move into the house, consisting of parents Noriko and Keiichi, and their children Tsuyoshi and Kanna.
  • Whilst Kanna is being tutored by her friend Yuki, Noriko goes grocery shopping. Kanna rushes out to feed the school rabbits. Yuki is spooked by Mar, retreating into the closet, where she is dragged up into the attic by Kayako. Tsuyoshi leaves the house, unaware of Yuki’s fate.
  • Kanna meets her friend Hisayo at the school. Kanna injures her hand, Hisayo running off to find a first aid kit. Kayako appears and kills both Kanna and rabbits. Hisayo returns, where she is attacked by the ghosts, breaking off Kanna’s jaw with a trowel. Hisayo is torn apart by the ghosts, her body later found by the school staff.
  • Tsuyoshi encounters Toshio at his high school and disappears.
  • Mizuho Tamura, Tsuyoshi’s girlfriend, arrives at the school, finding his bicycle and bloody phone. She and a teacher search the school for him with no luck. Mizuho calls Noriko as she returns home. Mizuho is haunted by Toshio before being killed. The teacher is later reported missing too.
  • Police detectives Yoshikawa, Kamio, and Iizuka inspect Hisayo’s body and Kanna's removed jaw, baffled by the concept that someone could survive without their jaw.
  • Kanna’s animated corpse returns home, revealing to Noriko that she has lost her jaw.
  • At some point, Keiichi is hospitalised, whilst Noriko and Kanna’s bodies are found by police.

     1996 - Ju-On: The Curse 2 
  • Tatsuya Suzuki, a real estate agent, moves into Kobayashi’s old apartment with his Nobuyuki. He comes to possession of the Saeki house, with plans to put it back on the market, despite its violent history.
  • He invites his sister Kyoko, a psychic, to inspect the house. She quickly realises the house is evil, advising Tatsuya not to sell it.
  • Nobuyuki encounters Manami’s ghost and becomes a mute.
  • Tatsuya sells the house to Yoshimi and Hiroshi Kitada.
  • Yoshimi receives one of Toshio’s drawings in the post and is possessed by Kayako. She murders Hiroshi with a Frying Pan of Doom.
  • Detective Yoshikawa begins observing the house, taking photographs of Yoshimi when she begins to resemble Kayako. He eventually has a mental breakdown due to the curse and retires from the police.
  • Kyoko checks on Nobuyuki, but both witness Takeo’s ghost re-enact his murder of Manami. Both are left severly traumatised by the event, Kyoko becoming possessed by Manami.
  • Tatsuya moves Kyoko and Nobuyuki to his parents’ house in the countryside.
  • Tatsuya’s father Taiji sends him off home to investigate how to cure Kyoko.
  • Tatsuya visits the Saeki house, where he is killed by the possessed Yoshimi. She and her husband are later reported as missing.
  • At the Suzuki residence, Tatsuya’s parents are consumed by the curse, his mother Fumi dying of laughter, whilst Taiji is scared to death by Toshio. Kyoko has been fully possessed by Manami.
  • During this period Keiichi Murakami disappears from hospital.
  • A month later, Nobuyuki lives with distant relatives. The deaths of his family are ruled as suicides.
  • Kamio and Iizuka try to visit Yoshikawa, but his condition has deteriorated. He is found dead that day by his wife, who also dies when Kayako appears on the ceiling as an apparition.
  • Disturbed by the numerous deaths, Kamio burns Yoshikawa’s photos of Yoshimi and quits the case. Iizuka is told by a policewoman that a woman has arrived at the station to speak with him and Kamio. The woman turns out to be Kayako, which baffles Iizuka. Kayako’s ghost surprises Kamio, causing him to have a nervous breakdown. Whilst Iizuka and the policewoman go to investigate the commotion, Kamio is taken by Kayako. Iizuka’s fate is left unknown.
  • Nobuyuki is haunted at school by Kayako, who takes him to another dimension, where she spawns several clones, cornering and killing him.

     1999 - Ju-On: The Grudge 
  • Three years after the Suzukis and Kitadas disappear, the house is bought by the Tokunaga family; consisting of married couple Katsuya and Kazumi, and Katsuya’s frail mother Sachie. His sister Hitomi, an office worker, visits whenever she can.
  • Sachie appears to be aware of the curse, staying up at night, and speaks to unseen people.
  • Katsuya goes to work, leaving Kazumi and Sachie at home. Kazumi is lured up to the bedroom by Toshio and Mar, leaving her paralyzed until Katsuya comes home. Kazumi abruptly dies, whilst Katsuya is possessed by Takeo.
  • Hitomi arrives for a visit, but Katsuya is able to remove her from the house before he is completely overwhelmed by Takeo’s influence. He carries Kazumi’s body up into the attic, where he perishes. He possesses the house’s phone, which he tried using to call an ambulance.
  • Rika Nishima, a rookie care worker, is assigned to Sachie by her supervisor Hirohashi.
  • Rika finds the Saeki house in disarray and Sachie is alone at home. Whilst cleaning, she finds Toshio taped up in a closet and calls Hirohashi for help.
  • Hitomi leaves a voice message for Katsuya, unaware that he is dead.
  • Rika speaks with Toshio, learning his name. She hears Sachie talking to someone, but Kayako’s ghost descends from the ceiling and kills her, causing Rika to faint in shock.
  • Around the same time, Hitomi begins to be stalked at work by Kayako. She alerts a security guard to an intruder in the building, but he is consumed by Kayako’s shadow.
  • Hitomi flees home, but Kayako appears in her bed and drags her underneath the covers into oblivion.
  • Hirohashi arrives at the house and calls the police.
  • Detectives Nakagawa and Igarashi investigate the strange deaths, tracing the home phone’s call up to the attic, where they find Katsuya and Kazumi’s bodies.
  • Rika recovers in hospital, supported by her friend Mariko. Nakagawa interviews Rika, learning of Toshio’s presence.
  • Nakagawa and Igarashi research the house’s history, uncovering the previous deaths and disappearances. Igarashi recruits the retired Toyama as a consultant.
  • Hirohashi is found dead by a colleague.
  • Toyama observes security footage from Hitomi’s office. Nakagawa and Igarashi step out upon learning Hirohashi has died. The footage shows the security guard’s death, before Kayako walks down the office hall, appearing in front of the camera to deliver a chilling Death Glare at Toyama.
  • Rika is haunted by Kayako and Toshio.
  • Toyama breaks into the Saeki house to burn it down, but is briefly drawn into the future where his teenage daughter Izumi flees the house. Her friends, Saori, Ayano, and Chiro, are consumed by the curse. Returning to the present, Toyama is chased by Kayako, running into Nakagawa and Igarashi. He flees, abandoning them as they are killed by Kayako.
  • Toyama dies.
  • Some time later, Rika has recovered and returned to work. However, she is haunted by the ghosts once again.
  • Mariko, a teacher, learns Toshio is one of her students but has not come to school. She goes to the Saeki house to wait for his parents to arrive, calling Rika. Realising where Mariko is, Rika races to save her.
  • Rika enters the house to see Mariko being dragged up into the attic. Kayako appears, causing Rika to flee. However, she realises the ghost she has been seeing was not Kayako, but actually her own, caught in a Stable Time Loop condemning her to become a part of the curse. Takeo descends the stairs and kills Rika in a repeat of Kayako's murder.

    Between 2000- 2006 - Black Ghost & White Ghost 
  • Fukie Yokota, a young girl, is hospitalised under the care of her nurse Yuko.
  • Returning home, she screams wildly and cryptically tells her father Yokota that will murder a woman named Ayano.
  • Fukie’s mother Kiwako and aunt Mariko Matsuoka learn that Fukie’s condition is due to her vestigal twin, whose grudge has allowed her to possess Fukie.
  • Mariko performs an exorcism to expel Fukie’s twin. However, this ejects Fukie’s spirit instead. The twin in Fukie’s body breaks into Mariko’s house, murdering her, her husband, and her son, creating a curse in the Matsuoka house.
  • Kiwako acknowledges what has happened, choosing to throw herself and Fukie’s body off the hospital roof, both dying.
  • Fukie’s twin, the Black Ghost, wanders Tokyo until possessing Ayano. Yokota visits her, but she attempts to choke him to death. Yokota regains consciousness, finding Ayano has been strangled with his belt. He buries her body in the woods, but her body starts to utter a death rattle, creating yet another new curse.
  • The Black Ghost possesses Yuko, murdering both her and her neighbour Tetsuya. The fate of both twins’ ghosts is unknown afterwards.

2002

  • The Isobe family move into the Matsuoka house; consisting of medical student Atsushi, his parents Gentaro and Miho, his sister Junko, her daughter Mirai, and grandmother Haru. Atsushi touches a mirror, where an evil spirit appears to possess him.
  • Mirai confides in her best friend Akane Kashiwagi that Atsushi has changed and has started abusing her. Atsushi chucks Akane out the house, who runs away in terror rather than try to protect Mirai. Grandma Haru rescues Mirai from her uncle’s abuse.
  • On December 23rd, Atsushi fails his medical exams. He brutally murders his entire family, sawing off Mirai’s head and leaves the house carrying it in a duffle bag. Akane’s father Hajime, a taxi driver, drives Atsushi through town, unaware of his crimes. Atsushi walks into the woods where he hangs himself, leaving a tape recording of an apology to Mirai’s reanimated head.
  • The next day, Akane tries to telling Hajime about Mirai’s abuse, but relents. Hajime drives away, but finds the duffle bag in the back of his cab, where he is killed by Mirai’s ghost.
  • Fumiya, a delivery boy, discovers the murder scene whilst delivering a Christmas cake to the house. He is attacked by Haru’s ghost. After being hospitalised, Fumiya is taken home by his girlfriend Chiho, but he stabs her to death when he sees her as Haru.
  • Police officer Detective Hideki Yasukawa investigates the murders, but his colleague commits suicide after recovering the cassette tape left by Atsushi. Yasukawa destroyed the tape, but it keeps reappearing. The tape is an extension of the Isobe curse, repeating words that the Black Ghost told to Mariko over the phone prior to murdering her family.

     2006 - Ju-On: The Grudge (cont'd), Ju-On: The Grudge 2 
  • Izumi goes into the Saeki house on a Scare Dare with her friends. However, she grows scared and flees the house, briefly encountering her father across space and time. Her friends are killed.
  • Missing posters for Saori, Ayano, and Chiro are placed on public notice boards.
  • Rika’s body is found in the house years after she died.
  • Izumi begins to be tormented by the ghosts of her friends, growing Properly Paranoid, shutting herself in her bedroom, and covering her windows with newspaper.
  • Izumi’s friends Chiharu and Miyuki visit Izumi, disturbed by her behaviour, learning she went to the Saeki house. Upon leaving, they look at school photos provided by their teacher, finding Izumi and her friends have their eyes blacked out.
  • The ghosts of Izumi’s friends break into her house and pursue her, but Izumi is killed by Kayako.
  • Keisuke Okuni, director of the “Heart-Stopping Backgrounds”, decides to make an episode based around the Saeki house. He invites famed horror actress Kyoko Harase to appear as a special guest. His crew includes Tomoka Miura as the host and script writer, the psychic Megumi Obayashi as make up artist, cameraman Watanabe, and sound operator Soma.
  • Tomoka begins to hear strange banging noises on her apartment walls at 12:27 AM for several nights. Her boyfriend Noritaka is also present when the phenomena happens.
  • The crew begin filming in the Saeki house. Kyoko and Megumi observe a black stain on the floor, actually the spot where Kayako died. The recording goes smoothly aside from a loud noise coming from Kyoko’s microphone. What the crew don’t know is that the ghosts have already infected the footage and caused the noise.
  • On a lunch break, Megumi gifts Kyoko with a good luck charm for a safe pregancy. Kyoko is unaware she is even pregnant. During this, the curse bends time again, showing Kayako and Toshio still alive in the kitchen. Kyoko knocks over her coffee, attracting Toshio’s attention.
  • Returning to the TV centre, the crew split up. Megumi attends to some wigs in a dressing room, whilst Keisuke observes the footage, but falls asleep, unaware that Toshio appears on the footage.
  • Megumi is attacked by Kayako, who emerges from a dropped wig to kill her. Megumi returns as a ghost.
  • Noritaka goes to Tomoka’s apartment where he is hung by Kayako.
  • Tomoka arrives home, finding Noritaka dead, realising his death was being played out days before it happened. She is hung by Kayako at 12:27 AM.
  • Kyoko and her fiance Masashi are caught in a car crash orchestrated by Toshio, which occurs at the same time as Tomoka’s hanging. Kyoko has a miscarriage and breaks her arm, whilst Masashi is left in a coma.
  • Toshio approaches Kyoko in the hospital, touching her stomach, impregnating her with Kayako’s spirit.
  • Watanabe and Soma both disappear.
  • Kyoko stars in a new film, in which Chiharu and her friend Hiromi appear in as extras. During filming, Chiharu sees Toshio touching Kyoko’s stomach, screams, and faints. Chiharu has become cursed due to her time around Izumi.
  • Kyoko’s mother suddenly dies in her sleep, caused by Toshio.
  • Three months and a half after the crash, Kyoko is informed she is pregnant again.
  • Masashi awakens into a catatonic state, but cannot care for himself, entering seizures when he touches Kyoko’s stomach.
  • Keisuke informs Kyoko what happened to the rest of the film crew.
  • Kyoko and Keisuke spot Megumi's ghost entering Kyoko’s house, where she hands over Kayako’s diary. They research the Saeki murders.
  • Kyoko is approached by Megumi’s ghost, but her mother’s spirit defends her.
  • Kyoko returns to the Saeki house, but finds the front door locked, entering through the back. She finds Chiharu trapped inside trying to get out the front door. Kyoko’s baby begins to react violently in the womb, just as Kayako descends the stairs, causing Kyoko to faint.
  • Chiharu is thrown through time, space, and dreams thanks to the curse. She repeatedly winds up trapped in the house, finding Hiromi outside the front door trying to get in. She awakens on a coach with Hiromi, but flees outside where she bumps into Toshio and is killed, dying in Hiromi’s arms. Chiharu’s presumed spirit is transported back into the house, bringing Hiromi along with her into the loop. Kayako drags Chiharu to her doom, whilst Hiromi flees just as Keisuke arrives.
  • Keisuke finds Kyoko and rushes her to hospital as she goes into labour.
  • In surgery, Kyoko begins to give birth, but the process terrifies the medical staff present to death. Toshio appears as Kayako is reborn.
  • Masashi has another seizure, and is either taken by the curse or threw himself off the hospital roof.
  • Keisuke enters the surgery, where Kayako’s ghost emerges from Kyoko’s birth canal and kills him.
  • A dazed Kyoko awakens and embraces her new daughter.

     2008 - White Ghost (cont'd) 
  • Seven years after the Isobe murders, police officer Keisuke Kawabata finds Atsushi’s cassette tape and is entranced by it. Yasukawa intervenes and burns the tape. However, the tape reappears before Kawabata and plays its recording to him.
  • Akane, now a high school student, unintentionally summons Mirai’s spirit whilst playing kokkuri with her friends Mayumi and Yuka. Akane flees, whilst Mayumi is attacked by Haru’s ghost in the school bathrooms.
  • Wandering home, Akane recalls memories from her past. She returns home where Mirai’s ghost appears. Akane tearfully apologises for fleeing, allowing Mirai’s ghost to pass on, leaving a good luck charm they shared as children.

     Beyond 2008 - Ju-On: The Grudge 2 (cont'd) 
  • Several years after giving birth to the reborn Kayako, a worn down Kyoko is pushed down down a flight of stairs by her daughter. Kayako leaves Kyoko to die, departing to parts unknown with her diary in hand.
  • The curse will spread across Tokyo, judging by the almost post-apocalyptic scenes at the end of Ju-On: The Grudge.
