The Reason You Suck Speech / Bryan Danielson

Go To

The man known as Daniel Bryan is a worldwide-recognized superstar. Among his qualities are those where he displays his mad use of mic skills.

  • He gave one to Michael Cole shortly after his NXT elimination:
Daniel Bryan: There is one person, only one person who refuses to acknowledge how good I am and he keeps saying that I have no personality, he keeps saying that I don't have the 'it' factor; Michael Cole, you're just a parrot, okay!?
    Michael Cole: (scoff) Hmph...a parrot...
Daniel Bryan: Those people, you've got Vince McMahon in your ear telling you all the time to tell these people that I don't have 'it'. You think, because I don't watch television, because I'm a vegan that I don't have it, that I don't have personality? I have more personality in my little finger than you have in your whole being. You are a poor man's replacement, you are a poor man's replacement of JR, you are a...
  • Another one given to Cole when he, now comfortable in his heel turn, showed up in the ring with bodyguards, demanding that Bryan apologize for his previous actions.
  • August 19, 2013: Having Balls of Steel to call out Stephanie McMahon on her and her husband's corporate BS, slapping the mic out of her hand and dropping a damning "The Reason You Suck" Speech not unlike Jim Cornette and his take on Hogan years back:
Daniel: I expect that from you, I expect that from your father, but Triple H was a rebel, he was a renegade, he was the leader of D-Generation X! But now he's wearing a suit, he's got a corporate hair cut... and I guess what they say is true: when you lie down with trash... sooner or later you start to stink.
  • Bryan also shoots one in John Cena's direction for their SummerSlam 2013 match.
Daniel Bryan: See, John, I don't get it. I don't get it why you and people like you think all I can do is 'gosh, put up a hell of a fight'. Like that's all I'm capable of, like that's the best I can do. John, last week you came out here and you did what you did best. You made some explosive remarks. You got the WWE Universe on their feet. Now whether it's cheering you or booing you, that's a totally different— different subject. But you saw that that red light was on and you grabbed the spotlight. And that, that is why I don't watch television. It's because of you and people like you, more style than substance, in it for the fame, in it for the glory, not in it for the wrestling.

You see this, John? You see this shirt? This shirt is a parody of you because I think you are a parody of wrestling. And guess what? I don't want to be a parody. I want to be the WWE champion, and I wanna be WWE champion for one reason and one reason only. And it's not for the fame, it's not for the glory, it's so that everybody knows and approves that when I step foot in this ring there is nobody better than DANIEL BRYAN!

John Cena: Daniel, you gotta understand. You're hopefully on your way to greatness, but I can't put you in that class because you don't belong in that class. You wanna talk about how demeaning catchphrases are, what's yours? Respect the beard? Well, Daniel, respect here, it isn't given out, it is earned. You listen to me and you listen good. If you are good enough to hold this Sunday, then and only then you earn my respect.
Daniel Bryan: And there it is. Clear and simple, plain as day, you just spelled it out. You don't respect me. Not only that, you are not treating this like you treated your matches with Shawn Michaels, like you treated your matches with the Rock because you respected those men. And why should you treat me like that, huh? You have held the WWE championship eleven times. How could you, how could you understand the hunger, understand the desire that I have for holding that WWE championship JUST ONCE? THAT'S ALL I WANT, IS ONCE! HOW COULD YOU UNDERSTAND THAT? And you can't. Because for you this is just another SummerSlam, but for me this is the biggest match of my LIFE!
You know, there's, there's a custom I learned in Japan that they did before big matches. And it's to fire somebody up, it's to light that spark from one wrestler to another so that they would bring everything that they had to that fight. They take their hand and as hard as they possibly can they slap him in the face. You know, I wish, I wish so bad that I could do that to you right now. But I can't. Because you're not a wrestler and you don't deserve it.
  • January 3, 2017, Talking Smack. The Miz showed up after losing the Intercontinental title to Dean Ambrose earlier in the night, clearly looking to complain. He complained that Ambrose had done nothing to earn a title shot, that Ambrose's girlfriend, Renee Young, had inserted herself into the feud (when the Miz had actually dragged her into the feud), and how the ref didn't disqualify him when Maryse slapped Ambrose during the match. Bryan fired back with a short lecture that sent the Miz into a frothing Villainous Breakdown:
Bryan: See, and this is the problem. This whole time, you've been saying people don't deserve these title opportunities, these people don't deserve these title opportunities. Well, guess what? The reason why you don't want them to get opportunities is because these people are better than you. Like Dean Ambrose proved tonight.
  • Post-Smackdown, June 5, 2018, comes Daniel Bryan calling out Big Cass for bullying him for his height and claiming he'll never survive the WWE. He responds by going after Big Cass for making him being only about his height and less about his own wrestling skill in a Shut Up, Hannibal! moment.
Daniel: It's kind of funny. "I'll never survive here." As if I haven't already succeeded here. See, Big Cass thinks he's a BIG deal because he's BIG, and he keeps saying "seven feet tall and you can't teach that." Well you know what you can teach? Every single thing that I know. You can teach people the Yes Lock. You can teach people a Heel Hook. You can teach people how to kick 'em in the head so it's shin bone to the dome when your mama ain't home. Okay? But Big Cass, he hasn't learned any of that. Why? He's entitled and lazy. You think Big Cass had a message for me? Well, guess what? I've got a message for Big Cass. Big Cass, guess what? You said you're going to break my leg in half? You don't even know how! You haven't trained hard enough, you haven't been in the gym hard enough, you don't know how to wrestle hard enough to break my leg in half! Do you know what's going to happen at Money in the Bank!? I am going to make you tap out ONE MORE TIME! Whether it's the Yes Lock, whether it's the Heel Hook, whether I just knee you in the face and stomp you in the face until you give up, that's what's going to happen at Money in the Bank! And you can't. Teach. Surviving. That.
