Tear Jerker / Rambo: Last Blood

Go To

  • Just the bare fact that we get to see Rambo genuinely happy and smiling once again in the first act, knowing that his newfound peace isn't going to last.
  • The reveal that his father Reevis Rambo died in 2000, meaning Rambo never got the chance to reconcile with him after the events of Rambo IV, as he had intended to.
  • The scene where Gabriela finally finds her father Miguel. When she demands to know why he left her, his response is that he never cared for her and her mother, and after her mother died, she meant nothing to him, leaving her devastated.
  • The scene where Rambo breaks into the brothel and kills all the pimps residing there. While rescuing Gabriela, Rambo tries to get the other girls to escape, but they refuse to do so out of fear of being tracked down again, much to Rambo's annoyance as he escapes away with Gabriela. The girls are last seen questioned by Hugo, who ultimately tells them to get out of his sight. Given the fact that the girls are too scared to even run away, it's really tragic for them; made even worse as the girls are still suffering the horrors of the brothel even after Hugo and his cohorts are killed by Rambo.
  • Gabriela's death. After spending days trying to get her back from the traffickers, Rambo finally tracks her down and rescues her, but as they drive home, he finds that she's been overdosed. He tries to keep her awake and Rambo thanks Gabriela for all the years she's spent with him giving him hope before she eventually dies.
  • As Rambo drives home with the recently deceased Gabriela, Maria is devastated. Rambo buries Gabriela outside his house and Maria packs up her belongings and pictures of Gabriela before Rambo sends her away, marking the total disintegration of the peaceful life Rambo had built for himself and Maria's family. The Lonely Piano Piece playing during the scene makes things all the more depressing.
Maria: I will be sad until I die... I feel like... my heart has been cut out.
  • Rambo's conversation with Carmen before his final battle with Hugo Martinez.
Carmen: I will not help you again.
    Rambo: You have to.
Carmen: Why do I have to? What will it change? Nothing. We grieve and move on.
    Rambo: And you've done that?
Carmen: I mean, I think of her every day. Every fucking day. But we have to move on.
Rambo: What if you can't move on? What if you can't move on at all?
Carmen: But you have to. We have no choice. What's done is done.
Rambo: Why is it done? How is it ever done? When I look at something so innocent, and I see that face never have life in it again, how is it ever done? I want revenge. I want them to know that death is coming, and there is nothing they can do to stop it. I want them to feel our grief, and know that's the last thing they will ever feel. And I know you want it too.
  • The ending. In spite of living 10 years of peace, Rambo had once again lost everything (including Gabriela and his home), even when he accomplished his goal of killing the heinous men responsible for Gabriela's death. A wounded and exhausted Rambo sits on the porch of his father's house and gives a final monologue vowing to continue fighting in order to keep the memories of his loved ones alive. "Battle Adagio", which played near the end of the previous movie, makes a return during this finale.
Rambo: I've lived in a world of death. I tried to come home, but I never really arrived. A part of my mind and soul got lost along the way, but my heart was still here where I was born, where I would defend to the end the only family I've ever known, the only home I've ever known. All the ones I've loved are now ghosts. But I will fight to keep their memory alive forever.
    • To rub more salt into the wound, when he says "The only home I've ever known", it cuts to the smoking fields. He blew apart most of his territory for the sake of revenge. Really speaks lengths to how the environment can be changed for the worst by battle, apart from the participants.
    • The Finale Credits that immediately follow show a montage of scenes from all five movies. Many Manly Tears were shed.
