Shout Out / What Happened In Edmonton

Go To

The only references carried over from Oregon and the books should be ones that relate to the current plot or characters. Things relating to the premise of the original books are unnecessary, but anything connected to other Brandon Sanderson novels are fair game and should be included in the 'other media' folder. All spoilers for the original books and What Happened in Oregon are left unmarked. Kokichi's references get their own folder, because of how numerous they are.

     Steelheart
  • Nathan lives in Newcago and worked at the casinos, which are only given a passing mention.
  • Funtimes rescued Nathan from Fortuity, the first Epic killed on screen during the first book.
  • Kokichi went to Babilar for a while, before being chased out.
  • Edmonton begins only two weeks after the end of Steelheart.
  • Nicroburst mentions the group planning on arranging a deal with Steelheart.
  • Jade considering Epics “like Steelheart or Nighthound.”

     Other media
  • Nathan is a fan of Doctor Who.
    • He intentionally requested clothes similar to Ten’s iconic outfit.
    • He refers to himself as the Traveller.
"Corpsemaker: State your name, power, and intention."
"Nathan: Traveller, Rather not say. Fun."
    • Although he could have called Doctor Funtimes "Funtimes," he chose instead to call her "Doctor."
    • He refers to her redemption as a "regeneration," and has crafted a theory that Epics regenerate in a similar manner to Time Lords.
  • The casino he worked at was called the La Beau, a reference to Remy LaBeau, aka Gambit.
  • Jade’s Grief Song, which doubles as her weakness.
    • It's actually two in one, considering the lyrics.
  • Doctor Funtimes earned the nickname “Epic!Discord” from players who drew parallels between her casual exuberance when using her powers and that of Discord from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Her given name, Jade Delancey, is a reference to Discord’s voice actor, John deLancie.
  • Funtimes’s habit of swearing by His Noodliness
  • In some Greek myths, Khione is the goddess of snow. As the Ancient Greeks didn't see a lot of snow, Khione was often a feared, mysterious, and unfriendly goddess.
  • Liam is a fan of Creator/Elvis and listens to several songs.
  • Red sings Kill Your Heroes in her introduction, though she quite blatantly misinterprets the song to be espousing the murder of heroes.
  • Red’s new use of her powers.
  • Agor Parker's last name.
  • Several to TV Tropes itself! A good chunk of members of the roleplay are dedicated tropers, so often times the lampshading Of tropes comes in the form of a link here.
  • A fan girl pretending to be Taylor Swift is a character.
  • Red's entire deal could be considered one to Himiko Toga, but she was created long before My Hero Academia, let alone Toga's introduction. It’s an amusing coincidence, one which has unsurprisingly led to the sailing of a crack ship.
  • The Circle of Shield is basically the Canadian SHIELD. The name is, presumably, intentional.
  • Sapphire, Sangria, and Sable are expies of Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee.
  • Brandon's first name.
  • Metal Fist.
  • Nicroburst’s name and powers.
  • Destinaton Donuts is a real place in Edmonton, although one slightly less prone to attracting strange encounters.
  • The graffiti that reads “the end of times is coming and it’s not fine.”
