Sandbox / Wild Kratts Parrot Power

Go To

While flying over the Amazon rainforest, the gang share a bowl of colorful jelly beans. Martin tells them that the jelly beans remind him of parrots. This confuses everybody until he says it's because parrots come in almost every color. Soon the bros are off on a creature mission to find as many colorful parrots as they can in the Amazon Rainforest.

Tropes

  • Action Girl: While Aviva and Koki are that by default (especially Aviva), it's even more highlighted in this episode thanks to their larger than usual focus in this episode as they are who defeat Donita for the brothers after the latter duo got defeathered and rendered unable to fight.
  • A Day in the Limelight: It doesn't start as one, but after the brothers get defeathered and rendered unable to fight, Aviva and Koki decide to take their usual roles and fight off Donita for them instead, transferring the spotlight to them in the process.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Keeping with their theme colors, Martin prefers blue jellybeans while Chris prefers green ones and Jimmy prefers orange ones. Aviva and Koki are the only crew members who enjoy colors of jellybeans not matching their theme colors — Aviva prefers red ones when her theme color is purple and Koki prefers yellow ones when her theme color is orange.
  • Decoy Protagonist: It's usually averted for the brothers, but in this case it's played straight as they are the main focus for the first two thirds of the episode, doing their usual, telling the rest of the crew about parrots, activating Creature Power Suits and all...before they get defeathered by Donita and rendered unable to fight, leading to Aviva and Koki to take their usual roles (complete with activating their Creature Power Suits) and defeat Donita in the final third act of the episode.
  • Ear Ache: Martin gets his ear yanked by a very inquisitive mother parrot when she catches him and his brother eyeing her babies.
  • Heads or Tails?: To decide who investigates what's in the trunk of the tree, Martin and Chris perform a coin toss, only with a cheetah Creature Power Disc grabbed from Martin's boot in lieu of an actual coin and "cheetah or blank" in lieu of heads and tails. Chris, who picked cheetah, ends up winning, meaning Martin is the one who has to check.
  • Mama Bear: The scarlet macaw Chris and Martin come across is quite protective of her chicks, as evidenced by her yanking on Martin's ear and pecking Chris in the butt so that he falls off the tree he's standing on.
  • Near-Villain Victory: With the brothers, who can usually defeat Donita, out of the way after they get defeathered by her, Donita almost does the same to the other parrots, before Aviva and Koki come in and destroy both the Deactivator and Fantastic Feather Sucker, defeating her in the process.
  • Pain to the Ass: Chris gets his butt pecked by a mother parrot after she finds him and Martin eyeing on her babies, and end up falling from a tree.
  • Pop Quiz: Chris and Martin explain that parrots come in every color. To prove they know what they're talking about, they encourage Aviva, Koki and Jimmy Z to quiz them on the animal by having them name a color they think a parrot species is.
  • Stealth Pun: Aviva refers to Chris's tumble from the tree as a "Kratt fall". While he doesn't land on his butt, the scarlet macaw that pecks him there makes him fall to begin with.
  • Watch Out for That Tree!:
    • Martin arrives in the Amazon rainforest by way of getting the strings of his parachute snagged on a tree, then spinning around until he gets tangled in them. And that's right before Chris tells him to watch where he's going.
Chris: [laughs] Good one, Martin! Ha, I told you to watch where you're going.
    • A minute after that, when the brothers go to check out the mysterious sound, Martin rolls right across a branch and lands smack up against the trunk of a tree, in contrast to the more graceful Chris.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Under normal circumstances, the brothers would have been able to defeat Donita. However, she has two things that debuted in this episode — the Deactivator, which forcibly deactivates a Creature Power Suit when someone uses it (as demonstrated with the brothers where they nearly fell down as a result), and the Fantastic Feather Sucker, which, combined with the fact that by the time the brothers find out she is here they manage to get defeathered, it effectively obliterates their chances of being able to fight Donita, and it ends up being why Aviva and Koki have to do their usual work for them instead, with the reason why they succeeded this time is because both are aware of these inventions when they get ready to fight Donita after seeing the brothers get defeathered on the Tortuga screen.
