Hadronos (Hadrian Praver)

A dutiful Aasimar planes-protector who semi-willingly accepted the responsibility of leaving his fighting band to protect an artifact of Surtur, with plans that the others would destroy the evil beings who knew of its existence. To do this, he was made a Tiefling - he thinks temporarily - and looks at others with a great deal of suspicion.

  • Bad Liar: He has always placed value on honesty - a rare influence from his human family - and while his dedication and reliability made the other Guided Chosen believe him a fine choice to protect the artifact, they overlooked the fact that he's an awkward, uncomfortable liar should he need to weave words to keep the artifact secret.
  • Black-and-White Morality: Downplayed. Coming from a life where there was obvious good (the Celestials, Aasimar, and those who fought for their beliefs) fought obvious evil (necromancers, devils, and the like), Hadronos tends to think most beings are either wholly good or wholly evil. However, he gives a lot of leeway before deciding any individual deserves to be thought of as wholly evil.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Hadronos cannot ignore good people in need, and while the Guided Chosen solved many problems with pragmatism, their roots lay in chivalrous action. Even now, with such responsibility, he would struggle to deny anyone in need.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Once, Hadronos sundered his enemies with heavenly smites. Now that he is disguised as a Tiefling, he has been forced to revert to the way he first learned to fight from his mentor - with strategy, physical prowess, and practicality.
  • Creepy Blue Eyes: Played with. He has the same color eyes as he had as an Aasimar - a sort of whitish-blue. As an Aasimar, though, they were simply intriguing. However, as the eyes of a Tiefling, they manage to be unsettling, even if Hadronos himself is not creepy.
  • De-power: A few months ago, before the change to a Tiefling, Hadronos could call down holy smites powered by the Celestial. That power is gone and with it his equalizer when fighting with fiends, undead, and like beings.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: For years as an Aasimar, once the Celestials started showing him flashes of the future and his destiny. He still had them with relative frequency as an adult, but they have stopped since he became a Tiefling.
  • The Dutiful Son: Is this among his Aasimar brethren (and... sisteren), for being the one willing to take the artifact and hide in plain sight with it rather than join them in glorious battle to (hopefully) defeat one of their most fearsome foes in recent memory.
  • The End Is Nigh: What he and the Guided Chosen believe to be the case should the necromancer, or some powerful outsider, find Surtur's artifact. They're probably not entirely wrong and chose to err on the side of caution by hiding it and trying to kill the woman who knew of its existence.
  • Fallen Angel: Hadronos was not an angel but an Aasimar who had fully embraced being guided by the Celestials and serving with others who performed deeds in the Celestials’ name in the mortal realm. He did not so much fall as his nature was changed, and he believes this change was temporary. Nonetheless, he has seemingly lost his Aasimar powers.
  • Fourth-Date Marriage: He and Kore had known each other for mere months before they decided to get married, and the time between Hadronos learning that Kore would want to marry him and the actual marriage was especially brief. Of course, considering their circumstances with her the daughter of the world's most sheltering druid and him constantly on the frontlines of battle, they are not ones who can afford to shy from love when it comes calling.
  • Good Is Not Soft: While Hadronos wields traditional heroism, he does not spare those who deserve a violent end.
  • Guilty Pleasure: To calm his paranoia during his months separated from the Guided Chosen, Hadronos took to reading books by an author named Almas - books that could best be described as "guilty pleasures" for their lightweight presentation of war and romance.
  • Happily Married: To Kore.
  • Heroic Build: Downplayed. Hadronos sprouted into tall and broad-shouldered a few years into his career as a fighting man, but he has always been on the wiry side. This trait only increased when he became an imp-like Tiefling.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: While Hadronos might attempt to present himself as a common mercenary and act as detached as one to avoid arousing any suspicion about the artifact, his sole motivation for getting involved in any fighting that could place him in harm's way is to protect and defend. Once an Aasimar, always an Aasimar.
  • Hypocrite: Since "leaving" the Guided Chosen, he has become frustrated with the tendency of some to regard him with suspicion as a Tiefling, despite regarding real Tieflings and similar beings with outsider ancestry with the same suspicion.
  • The Klutz: Downplayed. Hadronos is still not used to having horns and a tail as a Tiefling and has moments where he hooks a horn on something or knocks objects around with his tail.
  • Love at First Sight: To the point of his believing that Kore was a succubus who had already used some powerful spell on him; he thought he had to track her down and attack her to break it because she was so irresistible.
  • Master of Unlocking: Rahaan not only trained Hadronos to break through a litany of locks but he also forced the teenage Hadronos to unlock any chests that they procured for practice. And there were a lot of chests.
  • No Social Skills: Downplayed. As a traveling warrior from the age of fourteen who spent all his days fighting against threats that many common people were not even aware of, Hadronos doesn't have experience with some common social ticks. It took him forever to figure out Kore's advances, for one.
  • One Head Taller: Is considerably taller than Kore and married to her.
  • Opposites Attract: Heroic, focused, and responsibility-burdened warrior falls for the bubbly, adventurous, and flirtatious druid.
  • The Perfectionist: Hadronos expects a lot from himself; he feels that his value to others, specifically the Guided Chosen and even his wife, is in being the one who does not make mistakes and always achieves a certain level of performance. He heavily focuses on being his best and rarely allows himself to consider failure. Obviously, his current responsibility has put a ton of pressure on him that only Kore has helped to subside.
  • Properly Paranoid: Regarding anyone who tries to draw to close to him, in a physical or emotional sense, while he protects an object that could prove immensely destructive should it fall into the wrong hands might be difficult, but it is not entirely unwarranted considering he doesn't know who might be aware of its existence.
  • The Reliable One: His will to succeed and reliability as a member of the Guided Chosen were cited as the primary reasons for the group's choosing him as the one to steal away with the artifact until the others returned... assuming they did return, given they were taking to the Negative Energy Plane to battle with a necromancer.
  • Resigned to the Call: His situation, though he feels guilty anytime he wishes it was someone else who had been picked to protect the artifact and not him.
  • Secret-Keeper: The artifact is a secret, and Hadronos was tasked with keeping it safe and undiscovered. As far as he knows, the Guided Chosen, Kore, the necromancer, and one trustworthy wizard are the only ones who know it exists, and he plans to keep it that way.
  • Sidekick: Had been this to Rahaan for several years, but lately, it seemed that Rahaan had started to groom him as The Hero.
  • The Sneaky Guy: Part of Hadronos' training to join the Guided Chosen, as directed by Rahaan, was sneaking messages back and forth between members of the fighting band and to people in dangerous places. He was exceptional at it, and it was only his growth spurt that made him a frontline warrior and not a scout.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: He has this tendency. First, with Zeda showing unexpected interest in him, his best answer to her was essentially "sure, we'll try it"; he decided that the first woman who showed overt interest in him as a Tiefling must be a succubus; and he had a small instance of panic trying to decide a drink to order when he believed his usual might reveal him as a member of the Guided Chosen, among other instances. Heartfelt he can be; smooth, he often is not.
  • The Strategist: The talent he has fallen back on after the loss of his divine powers. Rahaan, who had never possessed strong powers, instilled in him the need to outthink his opponents; Hadronos heeded these words. His tactical acumen has obviously remained, and he is still a dangerous foe because of it.
  • Thieves' Cant: Rahaan taught him numerous underworld codes in case they should ever become relevant.
  • Uptight Loves Wild: Hadronos is The Perfectionist and undertaking a solemn duty that was left to him alone; romance would have been the last thing on his mind. Enter Kore, a freedom-loving Fiery Redhead who didn't have a care in the world and who was so effortlessly flirty that Hadronos thought she was a succubus. She proved completely captivating, since he had never met anyone like her.

Kore

A Kalashtar Druid who enjoyed a simple life in her mother's protective druidic sanctuary. Then she got a taste of freedom, met Hadronos, and found him intriguing enough to surrender this secure life in favor of one that might leave them on the run. This didn’t make her powerful mom too happy.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Kore is as warm and outgoing as a woman can be, to the point of hoping to earn people's friendship by offering them the things she loves most, like sweets. However, once others prove that they do not deserve her warmth and friendship, Kore may accidentally introduce them to the fire spirit bound to her.
  • Disappeared Dad: Kore's mother worked very hard to keep her away from her father, and has almost obsessively worked her entire life to keep him from finding her. Kore has no memory of her father, and considering the sanctuary was filled almost solely with female druids and family members, she had never thought too deeply into his absence.
  • Earthy Barefoot Character: A druid whose focus centers on spreading growth from the earth beneath her feet after the old things have been burned away, so naturally, she doesn't like shoes because they interrupt her connection with the soil.
  • Elemental Powers: Fire, from her connection to a primordial fire spirit.
  • Erotic Eating: Seduced Hadronos in this way a few times with the sanctuary fruit. It worked, magnificently.
  • Erotic Literature: Has spent a lot of time studying Fey writings about... extracurricular activities, that may or may not have been written by the Summer Queen herself.
  • Fertile Feet: An earthly druid who walks around barefoot.
  • Fiery Redhead: On a slow day, she's a perky and pleasant druid who spends her time growing flowers. This proves incredibly misleading when combat starts, and the actual fiery ensues due to Kore being incredibly capable of burning through swaths of foes due to her connection to both a primordial fire spirit and an intense quori spirit.
  • Fire Purifies: Part of her ideals and creed - burn away the old, corrupted, and decayed in order to make room for the new, for the betterment of everyone.
  • Flower Motifs: Kore is a walking flower motif - bright, cheerful, and youthful.
  • Fourth-Date Marriage: Kore was taken with Hadronos almost immediately and did her best to make it obvious early on that she had no problem committing to a man like him even if he was called back to his old life. It took him a bit longer to catch onto her intentions, but they were still only together for months before marrying.
  • Fun Personified: She has found few situations where an injection of liveliness didn't help put everyone in a better mood.
  • Gaia's Vengeance: Kore’s specialty is burning away affronts to the natural world around her and then utilizing her powers (creating flowers and the like, especially) to restore the greenery to the land.
  • Green Thumb: Par for the course with Druids, but Kore takes this up to eleven. Her greatest hobby is creating acres and acres of beautiful flowers. Of course, this is after she burns away any corruption or old, unnaturally stubborn growth.
  • Happily Married: To Hadronos.
  • Hartman Hips: Prominently curvy, especially in the hips.
  • The Ingenue: Averted. Might strike someone as this in the first moments of interaction with her. Then they find out, however earthly, naive, and innocent she might appear due to her love for flowers and sweets, she is nonetheless the Fiery Redhead at times and The Tease at others.
  • Kill It with Fire: Her first option in most situations, if there is actual killing involved in the situation. Being bonded with an aggressive primordial fire spirit tends to urge this along.
  • Living Lie Detector: Given her psychic intuition and the presence of a virtuous, if accusatory and aggressive, quori spirit in her mind to provide backup, Kore is quite skilled at calling people out on their crap.
  • My Beloved Smother: Kore’s mother never much liked Kore’s love for freedom to begin with, much preferring that she stay under her protective eye and bring beauty to their home and their home alone, but once Kore brought a Tiefling back home and decided she wanted to marry him, her mother’s smothering tendencies have been taken up to eleven… and made complex by the fact that her mother in an impressively powerful druid.
  • Nature Lover: And specifically, a flower lover.
  • One Head Taller: Is considerably shorter than Hadronos and married to him.
  • Opposites Attract: Kore is Fun Personified and Hadronos' only concept of true fun is war games, victory celebrations, and the other trappings of life in a fighting band. Nonetheless, she became immensely attracted to him given the kind of person that he was revealed to be, and Hadronos reciprocated.
  • Parental Marriage Veto: Her mother left no questions as to whether she and Hadronos could wed in the sanctuary. They did anyway, thanks to her uncle before they left on their own.
  • Psychic Block Defense: Her sharing a mind-link with another semi-conscious being makes it more than a little difficult for anyone trying to attack her mind to wriggle their way in there.
  • Psychic Powers: Par for the course as a Kalashtar, who have the ability to communicate telepathically with others. She uses this to great effect with Hadronos.
  • Secret-Keeper: Due to her ability to telepathically communicate with others, she stumbled across Hadronos' scattered, confused thoughts about the artifact only a short time after meeting him. Knowing he had no other choice, he had to accept that she would keep his secret - and believes it now that they are so close.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: More like flowers hiding steel. A most earthly, optimistic druid when interacting with the natural world, her husband, and her friends. Every bit as fearsome and prone to For Great Justice as Hadronos when dealing with evil and corruption.
  • Sleepwalking: Semi-frequently given she is mentally connected with a quori spirit that doesn't much care that it's nighttime and does most of its "communication" with her through dreams of its past.
  • Sweet Tooth: Kore loves food in general, but nothing more than sweets. Though she'll be happy with fruits for the majority of her time, when she can she tries to find candy and sweets. She loves sweets so much, she sees them as an irresistible way to make friends with others.
  • Telepathy: See Psychic Powers. Speaking into the minds of others - especially those willing to listen to her - proves as easy to her as using her tongue to speak.
  • The Tease: See Erotic Eating. She has a knack for distracting Hadronos from his concerns with the sly application of her womanly and Druid-ly wiles.
  • Took a Level in Badass: She always had Druidic powers, passed down from her famous mother, but for the most part, she used them simply for her gardening. However, due to her proximity to a volcano and its strong connection to the elemental plane, she was approached by a fire spirit attracted to the aggressive Quori present in her mind, bonded with it, and can now burn acres of land (and evil beings) with fire.
  • Two Beings, One Body: Mostly AvertedTrope. Kore has a psionic connecton to a Quori, a spirit being from another realm, but it does not actually have any control of her body aside from the vivid dreams it can conjure at night, leading to her sleepwalking. Mostly, this quori only exists to her in flashes of memory, inspiration, desire, and the like.
  • Visions of Another Self: Kore is bonded with a rebel quori spirit named Koreath. Because of this connection, she cannot dream. Instead, when she sleeps, she gets visions of those in her bloodline who were also bonded to this spirit, and some of their actions. These actions can at times be violent or vicious, and so Kore does not always get the best sleep. Due to her ability to psychically link with others, especially Hadronos, visions from the Quori can often slip through her telepathic communication as well.
  • Your Tradition Is Not Mine: Kore's mother was burned badly and ended up obsessively trying to keep both herself and her daughter out of normal society. Though her fears have basis, Kore has always had a different view of what life should be like. Kore's desire for freedom led her to finding her now husband, and though she wants nothing more than to move on and live without fear, her mother refuses to follow. Kore doesn't feel the need to hide away from society as if it's evil.
