tropers_desperately_attempt_to_explain_the_wacky_phenomenon_of_smexual_videos.describetopichereSmexual Videos, also referred to as Smexuals, are a series of audio edits using voice clips and sound effects often for comedic effect, usually involving Team Fortress 2 somehow.
A huge playlist of them can be found here.
Tropes relating to smexual videos include:
- Animated Adaptation: Since smexuals are audio-based videos, they're often adapted into animations by others, usually using Garry's Mod or Source Filmmaker.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall:
- In "a_retarded_shit_conversation_about_nothing_with_a_horny_merasmus_i_dont_kniow", Demoman is the first character to speak in the video, but Heavy informs him that he's not on the video's picture. Demo responds by adding his face to it.
- In "three_failed_comedians_are_randomly_laughing_in_a_bar_while_scout_tries_to_defy_logic.mp4.scrumpy", Scout manages to break the fourth dimension and gains the ability to move his head in the video.
- Everyone Has Standards: In "obnoxious_trolldier_cop_harrasses_everybody_in_a_random_malicious_pizza_place.cupcake", after Heavy gets turned into a squeaker (a child in voice chat), Trolldier Cop takes issue with Foxy raping him and complains to the creator of the smexual.Trolldier Cop: J-Man, that was borderline child porn! I am ordering you to stop before you get us all in-
- Everything Explodes Ending: Plenty of smexuals end with a huge explosion that either receives an explanation of what caused it or happens for no reason.
- Hypocritical Humor: In "soldier_and_his_idiotic_pissfriends_youtoob.painis.in.ainis", Heavy almost uses a similar joke to one from "stu_pidface's_flatulent_extravaganza.egg", but Soldier stops him saying "Stop taking jokes from other YouTubers!". The scene has been referenced in a few other smexuals, making the line an example of the trope.
- Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Smexuals' titles are often punctuated with underscores and have an extra word after a period as if they were an ordinary audio file.
- Intentionally Awkward Title: Most smexuals' titles are nonsensical and/or vulgar for comedic effect.
- Manipulative Editing: Similarly to YouTube Poops, the characters' voice clips are often edited to make them say vulgar, offensive, nonsensical, or even mundane things.
- Random Events Plot: The plots of smexuals are often made up as things go along.
- Running Gag:
- Characters will often refer to penises as "painises".
- Whenever a character says something that sounds (or is) racist, Demoman will usually be the one to call it out.
- In TheBlenderman's Christmas smexuals, Scout getting a container of memes (of varying qualities) from one of his relatives and Sniper getting socks as presents.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: In "obnoxious_trolldier_cop_harrasses_everybody_in_a_random_malicious_pizza_place.cupcake", after Trolldier Cop tricks Spy into admitting he's too much of a coward to spend the night at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria using Duck Season, Rabbit Season tactics, an annoyed Spy decides he wants nothing more to do with the smexual and leaves.
- Sensory Abuse: Also similarly to YouTube Poops, plenty of smexuals use earrapenote for some of their jokes.
- Sexy Discretion Shot: Plenty of smexuals feature characters randomly having sex with each other, which isn't shown onscreen for obvious reasons.
- Yet Another Christmas Carol: In "an_edgy_sniper_mains_christmas_carol.cancer.smexual", Edgy Sniper hates Christmas and acts rude to his teammates when they want to have ice cream with him, so characters from the past, present, and future try to get him to stop being so rude. However, Edgy Sniper doesn't seem to have learned anything from the experience, as he sends his teammates presents filled with bombs.
