"For over a century, Imperial Vissan, the mightiest nation on the continent of Tropera, has been waging a war of expansion. The Empire's armies have swallowed one kingdom after another, and their sights now lie on the peaceful kingdom of Calderia as the world watches. To the west, King Dolfen of Frael has moved his loyal knights to reinforce the Vissan border, leaving many of the mountain villages vulnerable to bandit attacks. Disgusted with the King's apparent apathy for the common people, Sir Tigra has resigned her knightly commission in order to build a mercenary company to defend the villages from the bandit menace herself."
— Game Premise

Fire Emblem Tropera is a tactical FRPG based on the Fire Emblem tactical RPG franchise, in particular the GBA entries, Rekka No Ken and Sacred Stones, with most of the game's mechanics borrowed directly from these games. The players began as members of a newly-formed mercenary company in the Kingdom of Frael in order to battle local bandit groups, but were soon driven to flee the kingdom as the Empire of Vissan invaded. Taking the exiled prince, Addelus, under their protection, the players traveled the continent in search of the pieces of the legendary Fire Emblem, in order to bring an end to Vissan's expansionist ambitions once and for all.

The game's Discussion Page went up on October 29th, 2016, with its Sign Up thread following two days later on October 31st. The Game Thread has been running since November 11th, 2016.

Fire Emblem Tropera provides examples of:

  • A Father to His Men
    • Tigra is said to have cared deeply about the soldiers under her command during her time in the Fraelish army, inspiring characters like Grendan and Eridan to follow her when she resigned. This attitude carried over to her mercenary company as she tried to encourage each of her troops to be the best they could be, and ultimately sacrificed herself to let them escape at Watchcloud.
    • In a villainous example, Corban Greham seems to be this to the Vissan Rangers, expressing concern when his subordinates are badly injured and throwing himself in harm's way to protect them. In Reginbor, he tells Addelus that the only leaders who are worthy to lead are those who are afraid of failing the men and woman who follow them.
"[I]t's a different fear I see in your eyes now. Not fear for yourself. Fear of letting down the people who believe in you." ... "And that's good. If you're not afraid to hurt those who follow you, you'll throw them away without a second thought. Hold onto that fear, Prince. It's what makes men like you and me fit to lead."
  • Animorphism: Laguz appear in Tropera as similar to their appearances in other Fire Emblem entries, in three varieties: beasts, birds, and dragons.
  • Anti-Villain: The Vissan Rangers and their leader, Corban Greham, are perfectly friendly to Railen and Malia when they encounter them in disguise at Watchcloud, with Greham even commiserating with Malia over having terrible fathers. When the players encounter Greham and the Rangers again in Reginbor, the Rangers readily agree to cooperate with the players to accomplish their mutual goals, and make no effort to stop them from leaving or to capture Addelus after their cooperation is over.
  • Bad Boss: Colonel Rore of Vissan is shown to be staggeringly lazy and incompetent, to the point of locking his own reinforcements out of the city he's holding to stop Greham from getting any credit for capturing the player characters at Watchcloud, ultimately resulting in the players escaping.
    • In an abandoned storyline, Rore was responsible for the death of another officer, and then covered it up in order to advance himself. The officer in question was Silva's father, prompting her to defect from the Vissan military to Tigerlily, but her player backed out of the game before the storyline got past her defection.
  • Bandit Clan: Large groups of bandits were the antagonistic force for the first chapter of the game, terrorizing villages in the southern hills of Frael after the kingdom's military was moved to the border.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: The Martial Artist feat gives characters an unarmed attack option that can be augmented with Clips.
  • Boss Battle: While every battle includes a "boss" unit that is tougher than the normal enemies, the cake goes to Jotnar: a giant demonic centaur with a mountain of hit points, second phase, and who was fought alone in an enclosed room with only spawned waves of cannon fodder minions.
  • Breath Weapon: The Dragon Breath feat allows manakete and dragon laguz to gain a natural attack with an elemental affinity of their choice.
  • Cadre of Foreign Bodyguards: Tigerlily is this to Prince Addelus, with very few of its members actually hailing from Frael.
  • Draconic Humanoid: Manakete sport draconic wings that give them the ability to fly, and are sometimes capable of using a Breath Weapon.
  • Dragon Rider: Wyverns are one of the options for characters with the Flying Mount feat. A generic unit riding wyverns is usually a Mighty Glacier.
  • Government in Exile
    • Prince Addelus is the lone member of the Fraelish royal family to escape Vissan's invasion. Tigerlily is working to liberate the kingdom, and restore him to the throne.
    • Weizan's royal family abandoned the kingdom to Vissan conquest decades ago, and took up residence in the northern archipelago where they have since become pirate lords, ostensibly with the ultimate goal of retaking their kingdom. Scherwiz is technically heir to Weizan's throne, but has no interest whatsoever in pursuing it.
  • Humanshifting: The sirens initially appeared to be beautiful human woman before revealing themselves to be Snake People once attacked.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: Tigra, literally, is a resigned knight of Frael clad in gleaming armor. She resigned her title after her king ordered her to abandon the mountain villages to bandit raids in order to reinforce the border, and instead formed her own mercenary company to defend the common people.
  • Mounted Combat: The Mounted feat puts a character atop a mount, usually a horse, increasing their movement speed and allowing them to pick up passengers, but also increasing their movement penalty on dificult terrain.
  • Our Sirens Are Different: Tigerlily encountered a trio of sirens who used their songs to lure sailors to the island and sway them under their control.
  • Partial Transformation: The Anthropomorph feat allows Laguz characters to gain some of their transformed state's bonuses in their human form, with attendant physical changes.
  • Pegasus: One option for units with the Flying Mount feat. A generic unit mounted on a pegasus is usually a Fragile Speedster, though all of those in the party have fallen into Lightning Bruiser or Stone Wall archetypes. Native to Ephlund.
  • Private Military Contractors: The game began with the player characters forming a mercenary company to fight bandits in the Fraelish hills after the kingdom's military pulled out of the area. After the loss of Tigra, the group dubbed itself Tigerlily in her honor, and dedicated itself to restoring Addelus to the throne.
  • Shapeshifter Mode Lock: Kiri is actually a full-blooded dragon who has gotten stuck in her humanoid form and requires a Transformation Trinket to achieve her normal form.
  • Shout-Out
  • Snake People: The true forms of the sirens encountered by Tigerlily were those of serpentine women with clawed hands.
  • The Good Kingdom: Frael is a small, peaceful kingdom that is conquered by The Empire early in the game's story, sending its prince into exlie.
  • The Empire: Imperial Vissan has been expanding its territory through conquest of its neighbors for over a century by the time of the game's beginning, and invades the kingdom of Frael by the end of the first chapter. Vissan encompasses the vast majority of territory in northern Tropera, including multiple different ethnicities and culture.
    • Played With: Several characters have implied that Vissan isn't as bad as it seems. Corban Greham alluded to Vissan's governement being at least partially democratic in a conversation with Railen and Malia in Watchcloud, and Queen Sigalfa of Reginbor claimed that every one of Vissan's conquests over the last hundred years have been provoked by the kingdom that would eventually be conquered.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Dragonstone is required for manakete and laguz to achieve a transformation into a full dragon, making them considerably tougher and so big they take up four map spaces.
  • Villainous Valour: When the player characters are sealed in a chamber with Jotnar, the Vissan Rangers have the opportunity to escape down a side passage and leave the players to have to deal with the vengeful army of Hodeskall soldiers coming after them. After the players slay Jotnar and escape the chamber, they find the Rangers waiting for them, bloodied and battered, having held the line against the Hodeskalls.
  • We Help the Helpless: Tigra and her company's original purpose was to defend Frael's mountain villages from bandit attacks after the king abandoned the area to move all his troops to the border.
