The year is 2033, and the world has only slightly changed from the modern era. Wars have been ended, diseases are slowly being cured, and technology makes its slow march onwards. Only one major factor separates this close future from the present day: the existence of Digimon.

In 2026, a creature later identified as a Digimon appeared in Tokyo, Japan. It rampaged for some time before finally being stopped by the Japanese Self-Defence Forces, however, that wasn't the end of it. As time passed, more and more Digimon appeared and rampaged through the world's cities, wreaking havoc and causing massive devastation and loss of life. Very few could stand against the rampage, with the militaries of the world often ineffectual against the Digimon threat. Some humans managed to partner with Digimon to fight the menace, but untrained and overconfident, their efforts only got themselves and others killed. The world was plummeting towards disaster, its cities devastated by enemies which could not be fought effectively.

Then, in a city in the United States, a discovery was made which would change everything. A small scientific team led by Professor Stephen Lloyd, though a freak lab accident, discovered that Digimon data and human DNA could be spliced together to create hybrids. Through further experimentation they found a way to transform a human being into a Digimon via this, resulting in the creation of the very first Bio-Hybrid. Following a test of the method which was halfway successful, the scientists concluded that a mutation found in only a tiny fraction of the human population made the procedure survivable. As such, the military, desperate for results, raised a false alarm of a lethal and highly infectious disease, in reality using the excuse to take DNA samples to test for the mutation. Twelve subjects were found, and under the cover of 'quarantine' were taken into custody. There they received surgical enhancement, with data spliced into their DNA to transform them into Bio-Hybrids. And upon awaking, they were informed that they had become soldiers in mankind's war with Digimon.

Tropes:

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Stephen Lloyd does not seem at all like a professor charged with creating Half-Human Hybrid Human-Digimon soldiers
  • Eagleland
  • Half-Human Hybrid: The Bio-Hybrids
  • The Masquerade: As far as the general public is concerned, those who became Bio-Hybrids are dead. In order to enforce this, they are kept segregated from the outside world except when in battle, forbidden the use of any communication with the outside, have GPS trackers in their arms to allow for easy recovery, and can be knocked out at a moment's notice via their Digivices.
    • In comparison to some seasons of Digimon, however, completely and utterly Averted with regards to the Digimon themselves.
  • Mythology Gag: Alexander, the only member of the Bio-Hybrids to be officially a member of the military, has Growlmon as his Digimon form. Lest we forget Digimon Tamers with its similarly shady organization dedicated to fighting Digimon.
    • Similarly, Digimon are specifically mentioned to 'Bio-Emerge', exactly as they did in Tamers.
    • Of course the first Digimon appeared in Japan. Where else would Digimon originate?
  • Super-Soldier: The general intention behind the Bio-Hybrid Project.
  • 20 Minutes into the Future
