Comic Books

  • Batman: Jonathan Crane/The Scarecrow is generally drawn as a lanky tall Ichabod Crane lookalike, and even got his family name from the character.
  • Supernatural Thrillers started out as an Anthology Comic where each issue was an adaptation of horror/suspense literature with Sleepy Hollow getting a sequel instead.

Literature

  • The Chronicles of Amber: Prince Corwin says that his older half-brother Prince Benedict reminds him of Ichabod Crane.
  • The Dresden Files:
    • Proven Guilty: Darby Crane, Madrigal Raith's horror movie director-persona, who feeds on fear manages to reference both Batman's Scarecrow, Jonathan Crane, who specializes in evoking and manipulating fear in people, and Ichabod Crane, who was overcome by fear and who Scarecrow is named after.
    • In the short story "A Restoration of Faith" Faith Astor cites El Dorado, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and tobacco advertising in a single paragraph. Pretty good, especially for a nine/ten-year-old girl who was probably in kindergarten when the Marlboro Man billboards were banned in Illinois.

Live-Action TV

  • Are You Afraid of the Dark?: In "The Tale of the Midnight Ride" it's said that every Halloween, the ghost of the Headless Horseman and that of victim Ichabod resume their flight through the woods. The characters end up helping direct a man in a very well done eighteenth century costume to safety out of the woods, only to learn he was actually Ichabod's ghost and they've unwittingly transferred the horseman's hunt to themselves by interfering.
  • Murdoch Mysteries: On being presented with a headless corpse in "Murdoch in Toyland", Dr. Grace quips about it being a former resident of Sleepy Hollow, "Ichabod Crane, perhaps."
  • Patriot: People keep assuming that "Ichabod" is a mocking nickname for the long-nosed and thin-faced executive. It's actually his real name. Ichabod either doesn't understand the reference or refuses to.
  • Sleepy Hollow is an entire series whose premise is being based in Sleepy Hollow in the present day with the headless horseman recently reappearing and starting killing every night, and (a much more heroic) Ichabod Crane having just been brought back to life after spending well over a hundred years not quite fully dead seemingly to deal with his old foe.
  • Succession: Logan calls Greg "an Ichabod Crane fuck".
  • Supernatural: In the episode "Clip Show" Lizzie Borden, Ichabod Crane, and The Exorcist, are all used as examples of demonic possession.
  • That '70s Show: In the first Halloween Episode, Eric attempts to tell the story, but as they've been decidedly unimpressed with his Ghost Story efforts thus far, Fez cracks wise and the others tune him out completely. Eric immediately gives up in frustration.
  • Wishbone: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is described, examined and adapted with the series' star pup in place of Ichabod in the episodes "Halloween Hound, Parts 1 & 2"

Video Games

  • ClayFighter: Pumpkin headed ghoul Ickybod Clay is clearly named after Ichabod, with his appearance also pulled from Sleepy Hollow.
  • Fate/Grand Order: Hessian Lobo's backstory involves a Hessian whose head was blown off during the American Revolution, but failed to realize he was dead and so ended up wandering around Sleepy Hollow.
  • Guitar Hero: Austin Tejas' skinny Warrior form brings Ichabod Crane to mind, and even includes a pumpkin-guitar.
  • Overwatch: During the Junkenstein's Revenge event the Gunslinger can say Just call me Ichabod Crane. when the Reaper returns.

Web Comics

  • Third Shift Society: The pumpkin headed Occult Detective Ichabod is named for Ichabod Crane, and his status as not having a real head and a immobile pumpkin instead is also taken from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
