Chazz starts crushing on Alexis and decides to show his passion for her with a duel.
- Big Brother Mentor: Atticus becomes Chazz's in this episode.
- Breather Episode: Merely an episode where Chazz goes ga-ga for Alexis, until the end...
- Cliffhanger: The episode ends with the spirit gates opening as a result of Chazz and Alexis's duel.
- Idiot Ball:
- Chazz loses a duel while wearing all seven keys, setting the sacred beasts free.
- The fact that he even stole the keys to lure Alexis into a duel was a idiotic move.
- Just Friends: As Zane is about to graduate and leave, he and Alexis, in both versions, start talking about what they've been to each other/how much they'll miss each other... and then start to look awkward before quickly turning back to facing the ocean and talking about her brother...
- Like Brother and Sister: In the original, Asuka tells Ryo he's been like an older brother to her all this time her real brother was missing.
- Married to the Job: Alexis turns down Chazz by saying she's in love with dueling.
- Mistaken for Romance: In both versions, Chazz speculates Alexis and Zane are a couple. (In the dub, he also sees Jaden as competition.)
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: Atticus says this to Chazz only to say he was joking and agrees to try and get them together.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Really, Chazz. Did you have to incorporate the seven spirit keys in your plan to woo Alexis?
- Odd Friendship: Atticus and Chazz are complete opposites, yet Chazz immediately latches onto the older boy as his mentor, and Atticus is all too happy to plot Zany Schemes with him.
- Shipper on Deck: Atticus ships Chazz with his sister purely because he's In Love with Love.
- Stating the Simple Solution: Zane suggests to everyone that they just tackle Chazz and take the keys back. In hindsight, this was probably a smart idea.
