- Evil Counterpart: The Sacred Beasts resemble evil versions of the Egyptian God Cards and have similar effects.
- Evil Old Folks: The leader of the Shadow Riders is an elderly man, in a liquid life support tube, and the academy's superintendent.
- From Bad to Worse: Kagemaru had Jaden on the ropes with Uria and things only get worse when he summons Hamon.
- Loophole Abuse: The gate can be opened if all 7 keys are won in a duel — who does the dueling and winning is irrelevant.
- Never My Fault: Everyone literally points fingers at Chazz for taking the spirit keys and unlocking the Sacred Beasts, including Atticus even though it was his idea.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Chazz stealing the spirit keys and getting defeated by Alexis the previous episode is what caused the spirit gates to open.
