Gambit kidnaps Rogue but claims he's trying to help her forget what she did to Mystique, a deed which has left her feeling guilty. But actually Gambit's just using her to help him find his adopted father who has been kidnapped. The X-Men notice Rogue's missing, and Wolverine goes on a hunt to search for her.

Tropes included:

  • A Day in the Limelight: For Gambit, filling in a bit of his background and overall character.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Rogue succeeds at helping Gambit save his father, and makes up Kurt at the end of episode, but Gambit must leave with his father to parts unknown. However, Gambit does leave Rogue his queen of hearts card as a token to remember him by.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Pyro displays this once Wolverine immediately leaves after interrogating him.
Pyro: Okay, take care, so long. Don't get all weepy on me. Let's not drag this out or anything.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Gambit makes no secret about his allegiances and plays Rogue to get her help, but he's out to save his father. He doesn't even like his father (or vice-versa), but he just can't let him die.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: After Rogue bemoans once again being used by someone else, Gambit sincerely apologizes to her.
  • Generation Xerox: Gambit says being a thief runs in the family, and Rogue immediately guesses he means his father.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: When Rogue finally learns the truth and condemns him, Gambit said his father's life is at stake.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Rogue asks what Gambit's obsession with cards is.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Gambit manipulates Rogue to get her help. It works until he accidentally touches her skin and she absorbs his memories.
  • Mundane Utility: Iceman uses his powers just to get to the second floor, Multiple creates copies to divvy up his schoolwork, and Berserker charges his laptop's battery power.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Gambit appeals to Rogue by saying he knows what it's like to want to break free of life's difficulties and how they're both from the same neck of the woods. Later, when Rogue says Mystique only wanted her for her powers, Gambit alludes to his father being the same way.
  • Oh, Crap!: Gambit upon spotting Cyclops in the crowd and realizing the other X-Men won't be far behind.
  • Parting-Words Regret: Kurt was rather cold to Rogue over what happened to Mystique, but he's deeply worried when she disappears. They make up in the end.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Wolverine is ready to skewer Gambit for what he's done, though Rogue says to just let him go.
  • Pet the Dog: Gambit tells Rogue she's going to be fine because she's got people to look out for her. He also slips her his favorite card.
  • Reverse Psychology: Gambit suggests Rogue absorb his thoughts, which he insists will prove his intentions are on the level. He knows she won't want a piece of his mind in hers and that the gesture will help make him look trustworthy.
  • Ship Tease: When it's all over, Rogue says she doesn't care where Gambit goes. Gambit is dubious and gives her his lucky Queen of Hearts card, which causes her to look rather flattered.
  • Skewed Priorities: After Gambit frees his father, the old man wants to take advantage of being in their rivals' headquarters and robbing them blind. Gambit points out there is simply no time for that.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Rogue realizes she was this to Gambit all along. He also played the rival family, knowing they'd pick a fight at that restaurant and that that would help him get Rogue to help him.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Wolverine finds Pyro in an Acolyte base watching TV. Granted, he's watching footage of Magneto being vaporized, and he's laughing his ass off the entire time.
  • Written-In Absence: Pyro says that after what happened to Magneto, the Acolytes split up. Colossus has gone back to Russia, though he has no idea where Sabretooth or Gambit went.
