The Recap of the Original "Where Was My Hero...?"

The comic opens up with an intro similar to the "Sonic X" introduction of Miles Prower. One bully is restraining Miles, who begs another bully who's holding a metal pipe, to not destroy his device, which falls on flat ears. The metal pipe comes down, smashing the device, destroying it completely. It cuts to Miles walking down, while he is distracted by looking at his broken invention that he is holding in his hands. Miles cries about his loss of yet another invention, but then he spots Sonic the Hedgehog blasting with super speed as he then stops to a halt. To take bare of his surroundings, Miles sees him and hides in the bushes while thinking about how cool Sonic is.

Then it pans away to the story's narrator, Mercy the Goat. She talks to the viewers about how everyone knows how Sonic and Tails have met, but she explains that there are many worlds or dimensions in the Sonic universe. Then she asks a question on how a story where the two never met would play out. Only one small stone is enough to destroy the world, as she says. She says that the viewers should see it for themselves.

It then pans back away to Miles walking down. While he is distracted by looking at his broken invention, he trips over a small stone and falls flat on his nose, hurting it as blood starts to seep. He gets distracted by his injury and does not notice Sonic, who has stopped to take bare of his surroundings. Sonic then shrugs off and zooms away in an instant, which Miles hears but can't quite figure out the source sound as he is left dumbfounded.

The scenery cuts to Miles walking down to his village; there seem to be many villagers that are interacting with each other, but then he walks by two villagers who call him a loser, a third who calls him a nerd, but then the next two specifically dislike his two tails, saying that they're disgusting. Miles reaches his house and immediately falls flat on his bed with a saddened expression. A Sad-Times Montage then happens, as it shows Miles trying to protect his invention as he begs them to not destroy it again, but it always gets wrecked. He says that this shit happens to him every day. A time card saying "2 years later" appears.

Miles is shown to be looking much worse, with bags under his eyes and his two tails being shaved like they were a sheep's wool, leaving him unable to fly. He is standing in the winter, wearing a scarf. He thinks of leaving the village in hopes of a better place, but he doesn't think that he is quite ready. He then gets interrupted by a sound in the bushes. He comes to investigate it to find an injured bird inside. He takes pity on the bird, as it can't fly back to his family. He takes the bird with him. A Good-Times Montage follows, with Miles taking good care of the bird. Miles even comments on how much fun he had. Until one day.

Miles is shown high on his spirit as he walks down to a secluded area away from prying eyes. He gathers some soil, saying to his pet bird that the machine he is holding in his hands will change the world; hoping to try it out before the bullies come after him again. As he drops the soil that is required for his invention, the two bullies call out to him from behind. Miles is visibly terrified, dreading that they are here to crush his hopes yet again. He begs them not to do it just this time, as he says that this machine could change the world. Miles's words are pointless, as they ask him, with grim expressions on their faces, if they look interested. The second bully uses his metal pipe to take a swing at the invention, and as Miles yells out a Big "NO!", his pet bird flies in defense of his invention.

The pet bird gets killed in one swing, seemingly saving Miles's invention. Not believing his own eyes, he freezes up with an Oh, Crap! expression on his face, as he breaks down after yelling out an agonizing cry. The bullies, on the other hand, just seem to be disgusted by how they got covered in the bird's blood. As the bully drops his pipe from his hands, they order Miles to stop crying and just shut up. This makes Miles go berzerk as he picks up the metal pipe yelling out to them that the bird was his only family, right before landing a blow on one of them and beating them both to death.

This is where the Story Arc of the Prequel series begins.

The scene cuts to Miles's burning village, him saying that now he's ready to go. Satisfied at watching the village burn, he notes on how something so wrong could feel so right. He promises that he will show the world how special he really is. Another time card with "8 years later" on it appears.

The scenery changes to a burning city, with a stairway to a factory which is unaffected by the fire. Sonic appears with closed eyes in front of the viewer, with bandages covering his right eye. He then opens his left eye when he hears a bang. It then cuts to a child Mobian running through the city with her bunny doll, crying for help. It then shows the green-coloured perspective of a bipedal fox-shaped robot, who has information displayed on its screen, including a radar and bio-information, targeting the child. She cries for her Mom and Dad, which doesn't interrupt the robot from saying "Target detected…" as it fires at the child.

When it does, Sonic, revealed to also have a torn right ear, arrives in the nick of time to save the child, barely grazed by the shot. He then slides down a slope, and jumps to catch a hanging iron bar, only to fail, letting out an Oh, Crap!. Right before falling, he says that the child should hold on. Sonic braces for impact, rolling into a ball, until he hits a wall, knocking him out.

Sonic then wakes up to seeing someone holding the rabbit doll in the vision of his eye. He is confused to see it as he was still dizzy from the knockout. As she asks if he is alright, he quickly snaps back and remembers what happened. He then asks how long he was out, the child responding with a few minutes. Sonic reassures the child to not worry, as it is still difficult for him to run with only one eye. They both check on each other, seeing that they are alright. Sonic then says that he will take the child to a safer place. This calms the child down, as she replies with an "Okay" while smiling.

The next scene shows Amy Rose reprimanding others from touching the soup while she is gone, threatening to use her hammer if they do. The scenery near her has buses around, with people surrounding the landscape. Amy has a big makeshift oven in front of her, with a big cauldron placed on top with boiling soup inside of it. The guy waiting first in line responds back to Amy by saying that they were hungry. Amy responds by saying that the meat inside the soup isn't cooked yet, and that would bring the "brats" stomach pains. Then Amy stares him down with a killer glare, asking him if she looked like a maid to him. He fearfully responds with a "no", as he steps back with an extra "definitely not."

Sonic then arrives behind Amy and calls out to her, with the same Mobian child in his hands. Amy walks to Sonic and says that she is glad that he has returned, and also noticing that he brought someone, the child gets handed to Amy. She asks the child for her name and also notices the doll in her hands, which then prompts her to also ask for the name of the doll she is carrying around. The child responds that her name is Pearl, and that the doll she is carrying is called Bunbun. Amy notes on how both names sound lovely to her, she then notices that Pearl must be freezing. Amy then gives away her coat to Pearl. As she does, Pearl starts to cry, seemingly remembering her parents, as Amy tries to assure Pearl that they are alright.

As Amy goes away with the crying Pearl in her hands, Sonic tries to call out to her... But instead meets an tearful Amy that thanks him for saving this child for her. As she does, Sonic is stunned, right before walking away with thoughts that she must have also told him on how it is impossible to save the whole world. He feels so useless.

The scenery fades in to Sonic entering a bright-lighted tent. As Sonic enters, he instantly says that today is now or never, and asks if the buses are ready to start. He gets a response from Knuckles the Echidna inside the tent, as he says that there are not enough buses for everyone to escape, but they will make sure that everyone will either way. Inside the tent, there is also Shadow the Hedgehog standing near Knuckles; they were appraising the plans on the table, while the lit candle is the only source of the light.

Sonic responds that even he doesn't know how many people there are left in the city, and that maybe they should send another group to find out, just to be sure. Shadow explains that Espio the Chameleon and some other people are still in the city, and that Shadow will also go to save some citizens. Sonic tells Shadow "Good luck"; Shadow tells the "faker" that he doesn't need luck. Knuckles then asks Sonic where he's going, saying that he was also needed with the others. Sonic says that he's got something to do on his own. Knuckles and Shadow realize what Sonic is talking about.

Knuckles tells Sonic that this would mean Sonic's death, to which Sonic disagrees. Knuckles threatens to kill Sonic by himself over it. Sonic tells Knuckles to calm down. Shadow says that he will not hold Sonic back, adding that if Sonic wants to go, he should do it now, because they have only a few minutes before the city is destroyed. Shadow then says that he and Knuckles would rescue more citizens. Knuckles asks how Shadow could support this. Shadow says that he doesn't, only for Knuckles to retort that Shadow just wants Sonic dead. Shadow laughs and concedes a "maybe", to which Knuckles threatens to kill both of them.

Knuckles offers to go with Sonic, who says that saving the citizens is top priority, and that it's bad enough that Sonic isn't around. Knuckles tries to respond, but Sonic shouts "enough", and that they've lost too much time already. Sonic yells that every minute is important and that they should stop talking and start to act. Knuckles asks Sonic if Sonic's an idiot, with Sonic responding "most of the time." Knuckles says that that explains a lot, Shadow smiles, and Sonic says goodbye. Sonic starts running. Amy says that the soup is still a little hot and to please be careful. She then sees Sonic running to the center of the burning city, and wishes Sonic good luck.

Sonic runs through the burning city towards Miles's lair, getting shot at by "stupid" robots. A flying fox-eared drone watches the scene. It turns out, Miles is watching Sonic through the drone. Miles, with a ring on his back, is standing on top of a platform, watching Sonic through three large screens. A robot asks Miles if the robots should stop Sonic. Miles tells the robot to let Sonic come, because it's been a while since they saw him. Sonic kicks a door in, wondering where Miles is.

Sonic kicks another door in, looks around, and hears Miles calling Sonic's name, shocking him. Miles is shown to be sitting on a throne atop a tall platform with stairs leading up to it. Miles is happy to see Sonic again, because Sonic is trying to save the world again, but he asks if it was a good idea for Sonic to come directly to him. Sonic says that he's here to stop Miles and his machine, because there are too many people in the city who could be hurt because of Miles. Miles says that Sonic couldn't stop him, like how Sonic couldn't stop Dr. Eggman. Sonic says that it's because he wouldn't kill Eggman, like Miles did. Miles starts laughing about Eggman and how long it's been. Miles brags that he was the better genius.

A flashback begins. Mercy explains that a few days after Miles left his village, he saw Sonic fighting Eggman. Miles decided to kill Eggman to help Sonic and show how awesome he could be. Sonic, after looking at Eggman's blood-stained glove and calling his name, turned to Miles and yelled "YOU ARE NOTHING!" Miles wasn't expecting this reaction, and he started crying. Miles was then sent to prison, but he then escaped, swearing to destroy this unfair planet.

When the flashback ends, Miles says that he was actually the hero, and that he'd never understand Sonic and Eggman. Sonic yells that Miles won't become a hero if he kills someone. Miles says that he did what Sonic would never do, and that Sonic should be "thankful" that he has one less problem. Sonic says that that's not what he wanted. Miles says that Sonic didn't come just to say hey, and dares Sonic to try to stop him.

Miles asks if he should take Sonic's left eye, to which Sonic humphs. Miles point out how, thanks to him, Sonic lost the other one. A contact lens falls out of Miles's eye, revealing a blue and green HUD interface in his eye. Miles says that he has a better idea. He flies down over to Sonic, deciding to kill him. Miles extends tendrils out from behind his back, wanting to kill Sonic, so bad. Miles shouts Sonic's name, pointing his tendrils at Sonic. Sonic growls and clenches his fist. Miles breathes heavily before his breaths turn into maniacal laughter. The final battle begins.

Sonic runs off, to Miles's surprise. Looking at Miles's eye, and through the perspective of Miles's eye, he says that Sonic is too slow for him. Miles grabs Sonic's wrist, and the maniacal laughter returns. Miles flies up, still holding Sonic, and then throws him to the floor, breaking it. Miles, still flying, laughs and tells Sonic to get up, because time is ticking away. Sonic only responds by lying on the floor, catching his breath. Miles says that if Sonic doesn't want to get up, then he will make him. Sonic is shocked as he sees one of Miles's tendrils about to impale him. Sonic yells and rolls out of the way, leaving the tendril to hit the floor. Miles asks Sonic if he wants to leave because the two just started. Miles uses his tendrils to chase Sonic, who's running and saying "Gotta go fast!"

Sonic then stops, turns around, clenches his fist, and yells, ready to punch Miles. Miles dodges the punch, shocking Sonic. Miles then wraps one of his tendrils around Sonic's neck, choking him. As the tendril lifts Sonic into the air, Miles calls this ridiculous before using the tendril to ram Sonic through a few columns, breaking them in half. Sonic grabs the tendril, only for it to slam him against a wall breaking it. Miles, looking at Sonic on his knees, says that he's really getting bored. But before Miles could finish his speech, Sonic grabs his face and slams it against the floor, breaking it. Miles lays on the floor, breathing, only to see Sonic grab him by his tails, lift him, run, and throw him against a wall. Just beneath the impact crater, a giant LCD timer is partly covered by falling debris, with only the ":57" part visible.

Black liquid seeps out of Miles's back as he gets back up. Miles is standing in a hole in the wall, right above the timer. Sonic looks up at Miles, who's re-extended his tendrils, seeing snow falling outside behind him; Sonic's head all but covering the timer. Sonic then runs up to Miles's throne, where the two stare each other down: Miles smirking and Sonic frowning. They then jump towards each other, with Miles laughing. Sonic then grabs one of Miles's tendrils, who responds by sending another tendril towards Sonic's back. But before the tendril could impale Sonic, it suddenly stops, confusing Sonic. Sonic grabs Miles's throat, while Miles starts smiling, and uses the grabbed tendril to impale Miles's heart. The two fall to the floor, landing in the spot where the hole in the wall allowed the light to shine in.

The two lie on the floor as the timer reads "00:30". Sonic asks Miles why he didn't kill him because Miles had the opportunity. Miles responds by saying that this is was he wanted. Sonic asks "What?" as the timer reads "00:25". Miles says that he wanted to have one last fight with Sonic before the time comes, knowing that Sonic would come after him. The timer reads "00:20" as Sonic asks what the time comes for. Destroying the planet and just disappearing? Miles lifts his arm, and responds "It's only my time." No explosion or anything else.

The timer reads "00:15" as Miles wonders if his life would be different if he and Sonic had met earlier, joking that he would be Sonic's sidekick. Sonic says that Miles would not be his sidekick. The timer reads "00:10" when Sonic says that Miles would be a part of his family. Miles gasps and turns his head to Sonic, shocking the hedgehog when he looks back in Miles' direction. Miles, with tears in his eyes and a smile on his face, says "Thank you" to Sonic before shutting his eyes.

As he lays down there dead with a pool of black and red blood forming beneath him, Sonic looks at him still stunned with that tortured expression he gave to him.
