Tropes for this episode include:

  • A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Read: When Aja tries on Krel's mind-reading glasses, she notices that humans have it just as bad at being human as they do, usually only caring about themselves and what other people think of them.
  • Aliens Steal Cable: Due to the impracticality of his human disguise, Varvatos takes to staying home and watching television as a form of information gathering.
  • Aliens Steal Cattle: When Eli thinks that Krel is going to abduct him, he pictures a flying saucer abducting a cow.
  • Amazon Chaser: Steve falls in love with Aja after she kicks his several feet into a trash-can when he was trying to fight Krel, complete with the street light making it look like she has a halo.
Steve's thoughts: Woah, she's like a ninja-kicking angel. I mean, she — she kicks ninjas, but she's an angel.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: While at this point Steve is just as involved with the trolls that populate Arcadia as Eli is, he does not seem the least bit convinced by him that aliens are there too.
Steve: Look, Arcadia's a strange place. But it's strange with creeps and Trolls, not blue E.T.s and magic houses.
  • Big Sister Instinct: When Steve refuses to back off when Krel tries to call off their fight, Aja steps in and curb-stomps him.
  • Call-Back: Two of the minds Aja reads when scoping the city includes a Vespa dealer complaining about a scratched Vespa and Claire complaining about NotEnrique buying socks with her bank account.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: Turns out that the taco-truck guy was the supposed alien bounty-hunter they were looking for.
  • Electronic Telepathy: Krel builds a pair of glasses that allows him to read other people's minds.
  • Fingore: Growing tired of Eli's snooping, Varvatos requests that Aja and Krel brings back two of his fingers, preferably his thumbs.
  • For Halloween, I Am Going as Myself: Steve is convinced that the aliens that Eli saw were just people cosplaying, an angle Krel manages to successfully convince him was what was happening.
  • Glamour Failure: Eli happens to catch the Mom-Blank sweeping the side-walk, only for her to turn her head 180 degrees around and calmly walks toward him backwards.
  • Hates Being Called Cute: Foo Foo's Berserk Button.
  • Holy Backlight: After Aja knocks Steve down, he looks up and sees her glaring down at him with the light of a lamppost behind her. He falls right in love with her.
  • Karma Houdini: Krel and Aja manages to accidentally - and very publicly - destroy the planetarium with no lasting consequences.
  • Killer Rabbit: Foo Foo the Destroyer is a robotic rabbit bounty hunter that insists that he is a tough and unstoppable killing machine, and hates being called cute. It does not help that his hops - his hops - are accented with a cute bouncing noise.
  • Leave No Witnesses: The Zeron Brotherhood have everyone at the bar killed so they'll be the only group with a lead on the royal family.
  • Psychic Block Defense: Krel and Aja thinks that Steve is the alien they are looking for when he cannot read his mind, only to find out that his bike helmet was interfering with it.
  • Rule of Three: MOTHER has summarized being human into three basic rules that she believes will help with their disguises.note
    • Rule #1: Humans are still evolving, so preparing for change.note
    • Rule #2: Humans Are Flawed, so embrace mistakes.note
    • Rule #3: When in doubt, play with your phone.note
  • Ship Tease: While reading the towns mind Señor Uhl can be heard debating going to Miss Janeth's one woman show, but decides not to because "then she will know."
  • Smarter Than You Look: When they are unable to read Steve's mind, even after Aja ruled him out as someone who would suspect them, they immediately come to the conclusion that he is Obfuscating Stupidity... only to subvert this and reveal that his helmet was blocking the mind-reading signal and that he really is that dumb.
