"The Big Good Wolf" is the 6th episode of The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse.

Mickey Mouse attempts to turn the Big Bad Wolf into a good person.

Tropes:

  • Ascended Extra: The Big Bad Wolf had made number of cameos in the earlier Paul Rudish Mickey Mouse Shorts before his starring role here.
  • Balloon Belly: The Wolf gets one from eating so many characters.
  • Blatant Lies: The Wolf has Mickey over for dinner at the Practical Pig's brick house. Mickey wonders where the pigs are, but the Wolf tries to cover it up by telling him that he bought them a new home in Germany.
  • The Cameo: One of the residents of the old folks' home is a skeleton from The Skeleton Dance. The skeleton, along with Horace Horsecollar, Clarabelle Cow, Dumbo, Timothy Mouse and the Saxophone Prince appear in the Big Bad Wolf's stomach.
  • Dramatic Irony: Mickey is completely oblivious that the Big Bad Wolf hasn’t changed at all, but the viewers know it from the start.
  • Dwindling Party: The Wolf eats the characters one by one until only Mickey is left.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: Goofy says Mickey changed one thing about the Wolf... his address, and everyone laughs, including the sun.
  • False Friend: The Wolf pretends to be a good person and befriend Mickey while at the same time eating everyone in town and ultimately trying to lure Mickey into being eaten as well.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Mickey doesn't connect the obvious dots of the Big Bad Wolf getting bigger as the people they help mysteriously disappear until it's nearly too late.
  • Funny Background Event: Donald appears on a "Missing Persons" poster, oblivious to Mickey and the Wolf.
  • Getting Eaten Is Harmless: Everyone eaten by the Wolf is perfectly fine.
  • Idiot Ball: Practical Pig, of all characters, should know better than to hide in a house of straw or sticks from the Big Bad Wolf.
  • Just Eat Gilligan: The Wolf doesn’t actually eat and digest his victims, leaving them free to be rescued later.
  • Mythology Gag: One of the residents of the old folks' home is Dippy Dawg, Goofy's Early-Installment Weirdness from his debut in Mickey's Revue.
    • Mickey says, "It's kind of fun to do the impossible", a quote often attributed to Walt.
    • Mickey gives the Big Bad Wolf a statue resembling the Partners statue from the Disney parks, with the Wolf in place of Walt Disney.
    • Both "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" and "When You Wish Upon a Star" are recurring themes in the episode's score.
  • Pepper Sneeze: Exaggerated when the Big Bad Wolf is ultimately defeated when he inhales all of the pepper, causing him to sneeze himself into the sun.
  • Pinball Gag: When Mickey releases everyone from the Wolf's stomach, he uses him as a pinball launcher. One shot even turns the house into a pinball table.
  • Sapient Eat Sapient: The Wolf is only interested in eating sapient townspeople… and a dinner salad to go with them.
  • Shell Game: The Wolf plays this with three cloches during the chase.
  • Special Guest: Clancy Brown voices the Big Bad Wolf.
  • Sneeze of Doom: When the Wolf tries to huff and puff and blow Mickey into a fire to be roasted, Mickey uses pepper to retract the wolf's huffs and puffs, causing the wolf to sneeze himself into the sun and destroy the Practical Pig's brick house in the process.
  • Swallowed Whole: The Wolf doesn't so much eat anyone, so much as opens his mouth and puts them in.
  • Villainous Breakdown: The Wolf goes absolutely insane in pursuing Mickey after the latter frees everyone from the Wolf's stomach and tries to blow him into a fire to roast him alive.
  • Villainous Glutton: The Big Bad Wolf’s desire to eat only grows with every character he eats.
  • Weight Taller: The Wolf slowly grows taller as he eats more people. By the time he’s eaten everyone but Mickey, he’s so huge he fills a room.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To The Three Little Pigs. The pigs' house is also seen, complete with the "Mother" and rather gruesome "Father" (sausage links) pictures.
