Go To

"Just the Four of Us" is the tenth episode of The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse.

Donald and Daisy, tired of going out with Mickey and Minnie, try to get some alone time by Playing Sick. However, when they come over to take care of them, they try to hide from them in a spoof of home invasion thrillers.

Tropes:

  • Affectionate Parody: Of horror movies, of all things. Specifically, home invasion movies - except replace slashers with overbearing friends.
  • Berserk Board Barricade: When Donald hears Mickey and Minnie trying to enter through the chimney, he boards up his fireplace with wooden planks. However, he forgot to lock the back door.
  • Big "NO!": Donald and Daisy do one at the end when they find themselves sharing a hospital room with Mickey and Minnie.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode primarily focuses on Donald and Daisy.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Rather than simply telling Mickey and Minnie that they want a night to themselves, Donald instead lies that he and Daisy are sick. Cue the Oh, Crap! look from the latter.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: The episode is a spoof of how a home invasion would've been in a real life situation but while it's Played for Laughs here, it could be terrifying if one takes it seriously. Another interpretation of the episode is that here, Mickey and Minnie seem to have a stalker personality here where they invade Donald and Daisy's personal space too much.
  • Downer Ending: Parodied as part of the horror schtick, Donald and Daisy get hospitalized after actually getting sick in the rain relieved that it's just the two of them, but it turns out Mickey and Minnie are right next to them as they got sick themselves in a cruel twist of fate.
  • Genre Savvy: Daisy immediately tells Donald that Playing Sick to get away from Mickey and Minnie will only clue them in to come and take care of them. Sure enough, she's proven right.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Donald tries to get Mickey and Minnie off his and Daisy's backs by claiming that they're both sick. Daisy warns him that this is a big mistake, because the two mice will come over to take care of them instead of just leaving them alone.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Mickey and Minnie clearly aren't being malicious when they enter Donald and Daisy's home unannounced, as it's under a genuine belief that they're sick and want to take care of them. However, they seem a little too eager to get close to them, and their ideas for double dates cause no end of fear and exhaustion for the latter two.
  • I Was Never Here: When Donald finds Goofy in his house while trying to hide, he tells him "You didn't see me".
Goofy: I didn't see him? MY MIND'S PLAYIN' TRICKS ON ME!!
  • Impact Silhouette: Donald leaves one in his bathroom wall when he sees Mickey in there.
  • Mirror Scare: When Donald tries to hide from Mickey in the bathroom, he looks into the mirror and sees Mickey standing in the shower.
  • Naked People Are Funny: Goofy running off naked while shouting "MY MIND'S PLAYIN' TRICKS ON ME!!".
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Mickey and Minnie invoke this.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: Multiple times by Mickey and Minnie, as part of the horror movie pastiche.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Toy Disguise: Daisy hides from Minnie by pretending to be one of a pile of stuffed animals, placing her hair bow around her neck.
  • Visual Pun: When Donald is accidentally spooked by Goofy, he literally jumps out of his skin.
